Got the ol' dual tank switch valve issue.

Problem is, my truck is a Jan of 1989 model with the frame rail switch valve AND high pressure pump. The rear tank supplies the engine, but bleeds into the front tank and out the fill nozzle if not stopped. Intermittantly the front tank pump fails forcing use of the rear tank pump. The strange part is with the front tank completely full I can toggle to the front tank but the fuel level will not go down. Toggling to the rear tank the fuel level has decreased. Having been told the problem is the switching valve with the part number being, FLUZ9B263B. Cannot be found through Ford or any aftermarket parts supplier. Any help here?

:-wink

Odd a year ago I walked into my ford dealer and told them what I needed and the guy new exeactly what it was and ordered me one for 100 bucks

re: dealerships.

The dealership is where I got the recall number, the original and replacement "fix kits". Unfortunately, the recall (according to Ford) only goes back to 1990 models. Mine being early 1989 does not "qualify", and they could not sell me the kit. Have yet to find the kit, OEM valve, or proper aftermarket part/s.

I do appreciate the reply though.

6 port? I JUST bought one yesterday< if ya need to part number, lemme know

Markgyver 11-17-2010 10:25 PM

About the 6 port.

Hey thanks for the reply.

I actually have the number from a website refered by Ford Motor Co. I just can't justify over $200 for the valve. I find the part on a wholesale outlet online, but the part doesn't look the same. Tried to cross-reference it... no dice. Was told that my truck did not have two tank pumps AND a frame-rail pump... but it DOES! What is weird is that if I start on rear tank it will overflow the fillspout. But if I switch to the front tank it runs without overflowing the fill spout. If the switch is bad, wouldn't it still overfill the front tank? The guys @ dealership parts counter are baffled. My truck is too old for the Ford recall by one year, though share the SAME parts. GRRR! Even trying to plumb directly from rear tank to pump is major issue. I've concidered a salvage part, but I know how that goes.

I grew up a Chevy fan, got this truck. Became impressed (don't tell dear ol' dad, grave will rumble). Kinda grew fond of this ol truck. But money is money! LOL

Would love to find the answer.

it sounds like the valve, everything i read tells me that on yours. I did purchase my valve from ford for 160 including tax. It fixed that issue but not the running problem. I talked to ford and most of the guys disconnected the front tank, ran off the rear and no more overfill issues. Then you by pass the selector valve altogether. The high pressure does not start until the frame pump. the tank pump is less than 10 psi so you can use a hose and clamps over the top. Just make sure the return goes back to the rear tank. Good Luck?

Ford F150 Fuel Tank Selector Valve

Go to another Ford dealer as they do not know about your fuel system at that Ford dealer.
The 1990 and newer recall is for a different fuel system.
The Valve can only be bought from a Ford dealer, the after market 6 port valve at the auto part stores is the wrong one and does not have a reservoir and needs electrical wires. Yours does not use any wires and is switched by pressure.

Bypassing it will not work either as the high pressure pump needs the reservoir in the bottom of the valve for WOT and going up hills.

The link above is for the wrong valve.

The right one:

Wow! subford great info. My 97 F259HD 4x4 just started having a gauge issue this week. Rear tank and gauge work fine and supply fuel with no issues, front tank works, supplies fuel, but the gauge doesn't work. Just a ground prob?

The one that I had posted is universal that's why. I showed one of our purchasing guys the one you posted. I'll see if it's something we can get and stock for you guys.

Thanks for posting.

When a gauge does not work it has either lost conanuty (open circuit pegged gauge) or the float has sunk (low resistance to ground).

Now that looks like the animal! Besides salvage gambling where might a feller get one?

PS. Thanks to all.

Any ford dealer should be able to order it.
Just have them order this part number:

Hope I'm not too late!

I just recently got a 87 F150 that I'm having issues with. It seems as thought no fuel is reaching the engine. The guy I got the truck from said the rear tank would fill and overflow the front tank so that led to the FSV. I hunted and hunted until I found the OEM part for my truck. I saw that others were looking for the same part so I decided to post it. It is sort of pricey, but I think it is worth having. Here's the link below. Good luck! :-X04
