6637 filter mod install question... kinda urgent

ok, so i ordered a 6637 kit from clay and it arrived in record time! so tonight after work i got to getting and figured this would be easy... i had the k and n filter FPIK on previously and thought that i could leave the tube on. it doesnt fit... the filter fits over the tube but i cant close the hood. what do i need to do? i looked at the pics on riffraff and i just confused myself more. i am going back out to look at it again. do i need to cut the tray behind the battery down? what gives?

It would help if you can post pictures. Personally, I didn't have to do anything but pull the old filter out(I still had the stock filter) and put the new one in.

When I installed mine I positioned the filter so the end dropped down the the original battery/air box, there is a section that let the end go lower which let the hood close.

Ya you need to do some cutting. I used a dremel and cut out quite a bit of the underlying black plastic tray. If you look under the filter with a flashlight you'll see what you have to cut out (most of the tray) after that mine really well.

I think the most important part to cut is right underneath the fattest part of the filter closest to the intake port.

I didn't have to do any cutting.

Ya alot of ppl said that when i asked the same question while installing mine. Dunno why some fit and some don't, but I can even see it on the pic he posted mine looked identical. Cut it out under the fattest part and it will fit.

cut out right underneath the S clamps too

Dane, if you need send me a PM I can give you a call if you need anything.

Yea, I didn't have to cut anything either. Mine fit right in. The hood does touch the very top of the filter though, but just barely. Keeps it from moving.

Yep what he said. You should not need to cut any thing for a 6637.

wow...

well... i spent about an hour dremeling and cutting and trying to get that damn k and n tube to work but i ended up cutting a little to much off in desperation. it wasnt gonna work. so i took the wifes rig to the storage unit to look to see i kept the stock set up and low and behold i did... pays to be a pack rat sometimes. now i have it on and it still seems to be a little tight of a squeeze. hands were freezing so i figured i would come inside and see what you all posted. first off, thanks to everyone for the help. clay, i would hate to call you tonight and if i cant figure it out then i will pm you tomorrow and go from there. if all else fails i will hack the hell out of that battery tray. i am gonna go back out and snap some pics. thanks again. oh, and a little hood rub is ok? i dont want to crush it. thanks
dane

I had to cut most of the battery tray and original air boxout for mine to fit, bout the only thing left is the base and the bottom part of the intake tunnel fits almost perfect, hood still touches but only slightly

If yours sit to high cutting the tray will make it fit alot better.
