Clicking noise in dash

My 2009 Expedition EB is making a clicking noise in the dash area for about 10 seconds when I start it up. I am guessing it might be the fan motor or something like that. The clicking is pretty loud. Anyone else have any problems like that or any idea what it might be?

Is your car under warranty? It is probably a vent motor and the plastic gears have stripped off.

Yes, it is under warranty. I will take it in and have them look at it. I searched on the internet and I found someone who had a similiar noise and that was exactly the problem.

Yeah, the motors and gears used are so cheap its amazing they don't brake more. Metal gears would cost them 40 cents more.

Does it make sense that it would stop clicking after about 10 seconds or so?

Yeah, I am not sure how exactly they know whether the vents are closed-senors, etc- but the motors fail safe I assume shuts it off. My dads Titan has the same problem. Its common, again because of the crap parts used.

2011 Expedition XLT

I have a 2011 Expedition XLT and LOVE it. 4 days ago, and only after I removed the battery cables to reset my SYNCH feature, did I n otice the clicking noise coming from behind the radio. I called Bill Currie Ford in Tampa, Florida and the Service Advisor knew right off the bat what it was but he was quite surprised it happened so soon, being only a year old. My fear is, since I have 48,000 miles on it (yes, I drive alot for my business), is that it will be very expensive for labor and repairs. I am hoping that this is covered under the 100,000 mile warranty, but as always my luck, it will only be under the 36,000 miles. Any service advisor wanna chime in?

I too am having this problem, I have no fans on when it happens. It does it right when I start it up for about 30 seconds then quits.

Blend door gears more than likely. You need to narrow it down as there are two blend doors if you have dual climate controls for driver/passenger.
