Lift/Leveling kits for 07+ Expys... Daystar says "Nope..."

I saw online that Daystar was offering a lift/levleing kit for the 03-10 Expys. Basically it's a 2.5" front with a 2" rear over-strut kit that slightly lifts and levels the front rake of our trucks. So I send Daystar an e-mail askinf for clarification as to whether or not I had to break out my strut compressor to install the kit. They send me back an e-mail stating that they do not offer a kit for our trucks because the ABS doesn't like it when you lift it....

From my experience and from what I know about ABS and it's related systems... I have to wave the BS flag on this one. An ABS system doesn;t care how high it is as long as the wiring isn't stretched or altered in any way. Even regarding that, the TRAC system and the RSC system could care less where the body sits in relation to a static point. ABS and TRAC work off wheel slippage with TRAC and RSC getting info from the gyroscopic sensor. The gyro could care less where it sits as long as it doesn't sense "out of limit" roll instability....

Truxx offers a 3" kit for the 07s but it's twice the price of the Daystar offering....

Guess I'll have to e-mail Truxx and see what they have to say about lifting our trucks. Even if it's just a couple inches....

not sure what idiot you were talking to, but he is sure full of "Male Bovine Fecal Matter"

I had a 2.5" on my 2006 F-150 and I know tons of guys running them on their 09+ F-150's that have that super whamadyne towing setup (basically a re-vamped version of our RSC).

I agree with you that the leveling kits will have no affect on the gyro. Somebody was just inventing as they talked.

now this Daystar kit, is it the one that you must take the coil-over apart and insert a plastic puck inside the assembly? if so, you might want to avoid it. those style of leveling kits change the ride quality. the spacer places more pre-load onto the spring. so you lose alot of the intial dampining from the springs

the leveling kits that you bolt to the top of the coil-over are better. they leave the ride quality OEM.

btw, the 07+ Expy has the same front suspension as a 04-10 F-150. You can grab a $70 leveling kit for one of those trucks and it will bolt right in.

the only difference between the years is the material used for the lower arms. 04-08's are aluminum, the 09+ are stamped steel.

edit: with that in mind, I don't see why you couldn't do a 2" leveling on all 4 corners for $150-200

Thanks for the info Tylus. I remember you mentioning before about the 150/Expy suspension compatibility but didn't know that it was the lower arm material that was the only real difference. That's a nice thing to know when looking at trying different things. :)

I found a few different explanations for the Daystar kit. Some said the kit was bolt in without dissassembly of the strut and some said you had to. That's the main reason I sent them an e-mail. I wasn't interested in a kit that changed the spring rate so I wanted to make sure before considering it. I thought for the price, if the Daystar kit was a bolt over kit that I would seriously consider it. I won't bother now though.

I'll have to look at those other solutions and go from there. 8D

My wifes dealership installed it. No problems at all. Dont waste your money on the truxx. I just wish I could go higher but there is nothing out there.

Excellent. Thanks for the info and the link! Truxx doesn't want my money anyways since they can't answer a simple e-mail question. Oo.

damn that looks nice. really makes me wish my Expy was a 4x4. then I could order that kit and slap it on there.

btw, I don't know why, but the look in the picture above makes me think 92-96 Bronco. love it

gddyup 11-26-2010 11:47 AM

EL... what size wheel/tire combo are you running on your Expy?

Harley Guy 11-26-2010 07:16 PM

So would the ebay kit work with the optional air suspension?
TIA,
Randy

33/12.5/18 nitto terra grapplers w/ 18x9 eagle rims. They do stick out. I also had to trim the front bumper but no biggie, you can also say goodbye to your running boards but I hated them anyway:-wow

I dont think so. You would have to swap out the rear. strutmasters makes a swap for the rear with a coilover set up, then you can install the lift.

Hi! Are u have some pictures when u near truck? I just want to see how big it is. Thanx

Personally if you are going to level the expedition you might as well do it right and ditch the crappy factory springs and strut and put one of Fox's coil over kits on. While the fox system is significantly more than the spacers the ride, handling and overall quality are 10x better than the spacers.

As to the person asking about ditching the air ride I would advise against it. I've used both and if you ever tow or haul anything heavy, even say four 200 lb adults you will notice a major difference in the quality of ride and handling without the air suspension. My .02 cents but you paid for it might as well enjoy it's benefits while you own it.
