Oil pan heater?
hey guys, i was thinking about getting a oil pan heater for my truck for better starts in the morning. does anyone have any experience with them? i was debating between the wolverine model 9 or model 16. or getting the Kat 150W.
i want to leave it plugged in overnight, about 6-8 hours, would the 125 or 150 watt work for that long of period? would the 250w wolverine burn the oil if it was left on that long? thanks |
Lived in Minnesota for 17 years, think block heater.

i was going to get a block heater at first, but it doesnt heat up the oil at all and it could leak or come out.

I've got a 97 with a 5.4 at almost 167k miles, it's never leaked let alone fall out. |
We have some oil pan heaters, they don't work worth a crap. We have block heaters on all kinds of equipment and vehicles and I've never seen one leak, they also only need to be plugged in a few hours even in extreme cold. The longer any of them are plugged in the greater the fire danger, never excited about leaving stuff plugged in overnite.

Being born and raised in Minnesota in the 60s when it was a lot colder. We used block heaters so we could plug them in at night. We also had an oil heater that was a replacement dip stick and plugged that in and never had any problems. Ran the plug thru the grill. I hope that this helps.
