What is the size of Torx bit for the front seat bolts

T55 is sloppy. T57 doesn't fit. Is there a T56?
Seat has started creaking on the front mounts - I think cuz of 5 Star Mike's tuner.... :-D

I just installed a centre console seat on my 01 and it took a T55.

I've read somewhere that there is actually a different set of Torx called Torx Plus, or something like that. I regularly remove my rear seat, but have made do with the T55 since the Torx Plus are so hard to find, especially in single bits.
Anybody locate a good source for single T-P bits?

I used T55 as well. Torx-Plus is used in the bed bolts too, which is probably why I broke two Snap-On bits trying to remove them. I'd also like a source for T-P bits.

I just removed a seat from a superduty last week. I misplaced the torx bit, so I ended up at sears and bought a large 4 bit torx set in 1/2 inch drive for about $40 and then used a 1/2 inch air impact after spraying the threads from underneath. Whatever size it was, it was bigger than the bed bolts.

Thanks for the replies. A guy in the local auto parts place was trying to convince me that I needed a metric Torx. (?) Never heard of such a thing - but alos never heard of a T-Special.

DaveB - great find. I couldn't find a price worth buying after a short search. Thanks for that. Too bad shipping costs more than the damn bit

Shipping

Yea, shipping always kills me. If you can use them, take a look at some of the Torx plus sets on the same site. Sort of takes some of the sting out of the shipping on a larger order. Also some other good tools there.

bunklash 10-29-2010 05:04 PM

If the shipping wasn't so high, I'd order the one bit, but so far the regular T55 has worked well enough.
Ordering a set would be nice, but the only one they offer with the T55 in it is $110!!! Dadgumit!! :-X09

I've removed all my seats twice now with the regular T-55 and it works fine. The bed bolts on the other hand... I'll buy a few Torx-Plus bits that size before I attempt those again.

torx plus

The Ford truck seat and seat belts are installed using a TP55 Torx PLUS, which is a new modification (improvement) over the regular torx. You can buy a OTC socket 3/8 drive on eBay for $14 or the 11 piece set for $35. I remove these bolts almost every week and Torx PLUS are better than torx but I still think it is just a way to make money designing new tools. The torx T55 will work fine if you don't have to use it often.

Put a piece of masking tape on the Torx bit, if it's a sloppy fit.

Here are some TP 55's available.
