58V vs 48V ficm
Ok so my ficm took a crap on me took it apart to resolder it but it is fried. So I have been checking online for replacements at elite diesel and innovative diesel. What are the benefits of the 58v ficm becides better cold starts is it worth paying the extra? will it be harder on my injectors? And I heard that if you tow alot you should not do the 58V is this true? I hope they will give me a core back. Has anyone had experience with the stage 1 ficm from elite?:-duel1

I also have heard from Swamps that if you tow stick with the 48v unit. They say the 58v will get to hot.

That is really interesting,,,, I have heard guys say not to run the 58v if you tow, but not any data are proof to back this up. So when my FICM took a crap 4 weeks ago, I made a phone call to swamps and had a long talk with Jonathon. He said they have been doing this upgrade to 58v for quite some time now, and have had no issue with a 58v with towing from any customers. And said towing with the 58v is just fine. So I purchased the 58v and have had it in for 2 weeks now, and just got back from a 1200 mile horse transport towing around 10,000lbs. I'm very happy with it and I do see a very little extra power while in overdrive towing. I have over 30,000 miles towing with this truck so it is very easy for me to feel the difference. As for MPG, I did not come up with any difference just on this one trip. For the OP, for the extra 50 bucks I would go for it:-D

the FICM on my truck is stock but "the word on the forums" is that the 58v gets to hot if you two especially heavy. i think i also read it on one of the tuning companies websites as well.

Well I will keep my fingers crossed with mine, but I'm not going to worry about it to much because I believe that is why alot of the 48v are crapping out on people is because of the heat as to where they are mounted on the "Motor" and poor solding on them from the factory. Also for other reasons like bad batteries.

I know this thread is old, but I thought I would ask if you have had any issues in the past year? Also, how do you like your Toyos, are they on factory rims, and did the 325 width affect your mileage......thanks in advance....
