78 to 95 cab swap. (PICS)

Ok so the project i have been working on is switching my 1978 cab onto a 95 truck i bought. I will have more pics up sooner or later. But here they are. And yes this cab has some cancer on it but this is a weekend play vehicle but while still being street legal. It is a mes right now but it is coming together better then i thought it would. Me and another member of this forum have been working on it(boss300). The front clip is next. Then it needs a custom steering shaft. The rest is things here and there. I am thinking a flatbed for it. Only because i cant find a 70's longbed.

I know this is going to raise alot of red flags with some of you but its already done so ..... More pics will come. I was in a rush when i took this pics i will get more. I am too unpatient to do a write up even though i might try. So just post questions if you have any.

I'm eager to see the finished product! Truly a one of a kind because I've never seen this at all. I love to see this kind of Stuff built because it's unique and no one else has it

If memory serves me right, you could have just moved the stock front cab mounts on the frame and they would have worked. Might have needed a slight body lift. The rear cab mounts should have been close to the right spot too. I can't remember for sure.

My wheeler is a 78 with a 92 body on it. So I did the opposite of you. The front clip is going to be tricky, as the front of the 95 is a lot wider than the 78, some custom mounts and you should be good.

ya the custom mounts dont bother that much. i could probaly have just move them forward if it was a v8

the cab had to keep going up and forward and up and forward and then up and forward some more. because of the straight 6 if a v8 would have been in there it would have been alot easier.

more updates will come...

ha ha only in Florida......looks good. I use whatever works to get the job done. Woulda been cool to keep the EFI but looks like you're runnin a 4bbl Offenhauser on that 300.

ya even though that is kind of what we were shooting for, we just decided the carb is best for now because we had to work out the cab and other stuff and i needed it running even though i dont need it running as bad now that my 93 is back up and running and still staying carb.

I need to get up there and eat some Walt's BBQ again...been a few years.

Why are you using the 95 frame? You are obviously using the 78 front suspension and axle

pro70golfer14 10-15-2010 06:16 PM

i didnt feel like swaping over the motor transmission transfercase and front end over to the 78. Swapping the cabs is turning out to be alot easier. But i dont know to each his own. Either option would not have been that bad.

We went into this project knowing what ever was left over of the 2 we were going to make so kind of mud buggy out of just 2 wheel drive, something simple.
If i would have swapped drivelines i would have had to put the 78 i beams under the 95 frame and work out steering differences on both of them.

O and i am sorry to say walts has went out of business and has been replaced by a woodys bar b que.

pro70golfer14 10-15-2010 06:22 PM

o ya i just forgot to say. Brad i understand what you saying about using the 95 "frame" now. It would have been senseless to swap ev erything over to the 95 frame. lol.

When i bought the truck(95) it had a c6 swapped in then a np205, and the straight axle. So it was already how i wanted just lacking the 78 body.

We are going to have to hang a d60 up front soon because that wimpy d44 will be prove to be worthless pretty soon.
