23 F350 Proximity unlock issue
Anyone have an issue with their proximity lock/unlock feature that is built into the door handles on the front doors? Mine was working fine and now the lock button does not work and if I put my hand behind the door handle it will not unlock either. Truck was bought new in Dec 23 and now only has less than 2000 miles on it.

What trim level do you have? Mine has settings in the screen menus for "Approach detection" or some such. |
Left side under handle unlocks, right underside locks.

Do mirrors and running boards extend? Any lights come on?

Did this occur after getting them wet? I had the same issue on a new Charger I purchased. It would happen after heavy rain or when they got wet. The dealer replaced both with a updated part number and never had the issue again.

mine have failed to work 1 or 2 times. start the truck and they work again 🤷🏻♂️

The steps work when I walk up to the truck. It’s just the lock and unlock with the handles that’s not working. Need a dealer visit I guess

Something I found after getting my truck was that it needed to have a trickle charger on it for a bit after I first got it. I was continuously getting low battery messages in the app, and noticed the approach and door handle sensors would not work. I have the dual AGM batteries mind you, and this was still an issue. It seems there are so many electronic systems that are constantly leeching from the electrical system. Unless you're driving the truck daily, it is surprising how quickly the voltage drops. Even with auto updates and such turned off, there clearly is quite a bit of background functions taking place when parked (such as GPS and all of the data constantly being sent to Ford for general vehicle status). Just the other day, after not driving it for a couple weeks I noticed that neither the approach nor the door handle unlock features worked. Truck cranked right up and all, and after driving 20 minutes to my destination, the approach and door handle unlocking features both worked. It's been on trickle charger for 1.5 days currently and still showing not fully charged. Interesting, the low battery messages in the app never showed up again in the past 6+ months, even though the symptoms of low battery voltage have been present. |

TL/DR: have you tried charging the battery(ies)?

Dual AGM batteries in mine as well. I have a battery meter on my amplifier. It constantly shows low 14s and high 13s - low 14s when the stereo is playing. Also just got back from a 400 mile round trip so plenty of driving and charging. No luck I have been going door to door and trying all touches, angles, pokes, and prayers haha. The keypad still works. The power steps sense me walking up to the truck and deploy and the lights also come on when I walk up to it. Just the door handles it seems are not working. It just happened out of the blue and it’s been probably a week or better now and still not working.

Ah, ok, I was hoping low battery voltage could be the culprit and a relatively easy fix. Sorry to hear like it's something else. Hopefully it'll turn out to be something else relatively easy to fix.

This has happened to me twice so far on my 2024 lariat ultimate. It only happens when it rains. It seems after I start the truck and drive and park. Everything works fine again. I personally think it has to do with the connectors that hang down next to the spare tire on the driver side in the rear. These connectors are just hanging vertically, allowing any water to drip down the connector and possibly into the connections. I feel there are a million other ways they could have secured these connections up and out of the way where they are not hanging down. At least put a rubber boot around the plug for extra weatherproofing.
If it continues to happen at each rain, I will have to bring it in. Seems no reason for this to be happening. |
Scheduled next Friday for dealer to look at it
|
Took it to dealer today. Took about an hour. They got it working but said I needed to bring it back because there were 5 modules that needed a reprogramming. They were having internet trouble due to storms I assume. They couldn’t get all of them. At least the handles are working now.

Proximity Auto Unlocking
I have had an issue where I approach the SD and randomly once in a while it unlocks without even touching it. It doesn’t give me confidence when I drive in or out of my garage with my secondary vehicle.

It has not done it in a couples of months now. So who knows.... |
I still need the dealer to program the other 5 modules they were talking about. Ford cares stepped in and I am finally going to get my right hand power stroke door badge replaced. Dealer told me it was 1 degree high on one side. I stuck my own digital degree meter on it and it is 4 degree higher. Ticks me off on a new truck. I’ll have it done when I get that fixed.

My door handles did not work yesterday. The truck woke up, the lights turned on, the mirrors and running boards deployed when I approached, but the door handles would not unlock the truck (MY24 F350 Limited). I tried touching the inside of the door handle and pushing the lock button on the door handle and it did not unlock the truck. I had to unlock the truck with the key fob. I was out of town for 5 days and this was the first time I tried to drive the truck. I ran some errands and drove about 20 miles total making multiple stops and the door handles did not work at any of the stops. This morning my door handles are fully functional. This has happened a couple of times (2-3) since I took delivery of my truck in December.

I am having this same problem with my 2024 F450 lariat.
I will drive the truck and then when I get to where I am going and shut the truck off and open the door, none of the lock or unlock buttons on the key fob, inside of door or the door handle work. I also cannot open my tailgate. Everything else works except anything that has to do with locking or unlocking the truck. I let it sit for 2-3 hours, everything is back to normal. Until the next time I drive it. I am driving it to the dealer tomorrow and will post an update as soon as they figure it out. |

Same issue on my July 2023. Dealer could not find an issue. Next day it stopped again and sent them a video. Their only suggestion was to bring it in when it was acting up.

I have this issue intermittently, as well. I also haven't figured out what makes my doors unlock as I approach the truck sometimes but not others.
It's also pretty irritating that the rear doors do not unlock when you grab the handle - our 2019 Expedition will lock/unlock on all four door handles. |
I truly believe it has something to do with battery voltage and or over the air updates. Mine has not done it in a while but I have not had any updates in a while either. My truck was also stationary for about a week and everything worked fine. My belief is the truck goes into power saving mode during an update and it never comes out of it. It takes X number of starts or time after start(s) and it will exit that mode.
|
I use my truck daily and the problem recurs often.
I also asked about the update that would "fix" the main screen from returning to the same or default screen...no luck, wait for an update to be pushed. Really? We know there's a fix and it's now April 2024 and I'm driving a 2023...when exactly is that coming? :-) |
I had this problem occur again today. I drove 70 miles, exited the truck and tried to touch the door lock and it did not work. I locked the truck with the key fob and then tried to unlock it with the door handle. Did not work. I tried it multiple times and the door locks did not work. I was away from the truck for about 45 minutes and when I came back to drive home, everything worked fine. There is definitely an issue with the proximity and door handles.

couple of things come to mind 1 that you probably can not check is what the bcm thinks the battery state of charge is,if it gets too low ive seen it cause this issue. 2 on my own ive noticed if i put my cell phone in the same poket with my fob it wont work most of the time.i just move my fob or phone to another pocket and all is well

Approach detection just failed to work for the first time this morning on my 2024 F250 Lariat. Had recurring updates set for every day at 4am. I just changed that to the minimum of 2 days a week. I’ve read enough about Super Dity trucks and a mysterious battery drain. Damn this is disappointing, hope it doesn’t get any worse.

Double post!
sorry. |

These vehicles need to come with a battery maintainer! Watch this..... |
that is the bms battery monitor sensor that lets the bcm know what the battery state of charge is. but to reset the bsoc you need a capable scan tool
