How much did you pay for your '04?

Mine excluding aftermarket stuff I added: 4x2 STX regular cab w/ 503b package - from Drew Ford, San Diego-> $24,370 (out the door)

Chiefman 10-13-2003 05:37 PM

I found a dealer to give me the X-plan pricing. This was a tough task. The sticker price of my silver FX-4 SuperCab was $36,640, but with the X-plan and the dealer installed bedliner and remote start system, along with all the other things like tax and license, and a downpayment of $15,000 and mine went out the door for 19,850.

That's an astonishing deal!

My selling dealer only discounted about 2 g's from sticker despite me paying the full amount in cash. They threw in the bedliner for free, but then I added another 3 g's in "stuff" immediately after (power tonneau, + other small accessories).

My whole interior is currently being upgraded to 2-tone charcoal leather, together with the headliner which is to be finished in dark charcoal suede.

I also plan to incorporate a supercharger and a navigation system within the next month or two.

Robb1313 10-13-2003 07:19 PM

I bought my yellow FX4, with everything but 35gl tank, Leather and reverse sensor system, $34,500 out the door. My wife has a good friend at the dealer, so they "took care" of us.

When all you guys tell us what you paid, could you please avoid using the "out the door" figure? That really tells us nothing, for a number of reasons:

Sales Tax, use tax, title, registration, inspection, and documentation fees vary greatly from state to state. They have no bearing on how much the dealer sold the vehicle for. We're trying to find out what kind of a deal you got from the dealer, not how much cash you had to fork out of your wallet. It's really 2 different things.

If you took low financing instead of a rebate, then it looks like you paid more for your truck than the guy that took the rebate.

One guy just mentioned that he's having the dealer add 3 grand in accessories. That's a personal choice- it has nothing to do with what kind of deal you got.

I see 3 responses to this question, and I honestly have no idea what any of you actually paid for the truck itself. Forget taxes and fees, forget rebates, forget add-ons:

HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR THE #$%&*^?+#~ TRUCK!!!

$26,600 2004 4X4 STX w/tow package, 6-CD system, LoJack, and black running boards.

raneu 10-14-2003 02:08 PM

I'm starting to feel really stupid after buying my truck last week. I live in a small town, but went to 2 different dealers and neither one was cutting any deals below sticker. They said they are selling the FX4's as fast as they get them in, so aren't dealing right now.

I'm not looking at the sticker right now, but I think it was $34,495 that I paid for a fairly loaded FX4. I hope a few others had to pay sticker also, so I don't feel too horrible.

petard 10-14-2003 03:00 PM

When I went to buy mine, they only came down about $1K from MSRP. And that was on the low-end (STX) model. On the LTX and Lariats they said there is a bit more room to negotiate but "not much". I guess with these selling like hot cakes there's no need to wheel-n-deal. Now the 2003s that were still on the lot were going for a song.

The only thing that makes me feel better about spending top dollar for the truck is that I'll have it for 20 years or so.

You don't see many old Toyotas (or Datsuns) on the roads these days.

:-)

jschira 10-14-2003 03:44 PM

Several dealers in Dallas/Ft. Worth are advertising $5000 off MSRP on Screws, $4500 off Scabs and $3800 off reg. cabs.

That is what the paper says, I never actually went to a lot, and the story can always change.

I think that Ford is giving dealers a bonus for hitting a quota.

When I got my '01 Screw, the deal was that if certain dealers sold 100 trucks in 2 or 3 weeks, they got a $100,000 bonus. Some dealers were giving away the $1000, other kept it but spent a little more on advertising.

Chiefman 10-14-2003 04:15 PM

With X-plan pricing, my Silver FX-4 went for $32,530 WITH the remote start and bedliner.

Option on test truck:

Black leather captain chairs
Power drivers seat
Deluxe Mirror Package
Rear window defogger
Audiophile sound system with 6-disc CD changer
18 inch wheels
Power adjustable pedals
Two tone paint
Tow Package

makealoop 10-14-2003 04:40 PM

If you check the Carmax website you'll see their price is about $4,000 lower than MSRP for new XLTs and Lariats. No FX4s are listed right now. I realize their locations for selling new Ford's are very limited. Not sure if they'll ship a new vehicle to the normal, used car, location.

I bought a 04 Lariat SuperCab w/6.5 bed, and everything but the heated seats. Oh my gosh! What a great truck to drive. I am one happy guy.

The MSRP was $33,285 at my three local, LARGE dealers here in So Cal, with invoice at $29,264. The best I could do between the three was $500 over invoice, $29,764, and I negotiated the loan amount to 3.99 % for 60 months.

I am very pleased with my purchase.

I got a GREAT deal on new '04 F-150

I live in Charlotte, NC.....and had two local dealers, Young Ford and Harrelson Ford quote me their "invoice" price for my purchase price.....on an ORDERED, fully loaded 2004 F-150 Supercrew Lariat 4 x 2. The only "extras" I didn't get are 4 wheel drive and the overhead DVD player. The invoice prices they quoted me are exactly the same invoice prices shown in the build & price section of FoMoCo's FordDirect.com, but because of a long standing purchase/service relationship I have with Keith Hawthorne Ford in Belmont, NC (just west of Charlotte), I got them to give me the SAME deal as the two Charlotte dealers, and ordered my new F-150 from them last week. The MSRP "sticker" price on my truck is $36,760.00 and the invoice price I will pay for the truck is $32,484.60.....which by the way doesn't exactly match the ForDirect.com invoice amount, because it includes $295.00 for Ford's FDAF (Ford Dealers Advertising Fee; which is the highest in the USA (Atlanta Sales Region) and $51.60 for 30 gallons of gas!!

Now all I have to do is sell my "1998, MUST SEE, EXCELLENT CONDITION, LOOKS & RUNS LIKE NEW, EDDIE BAUER, 4 x 4 EXPLORER" for a decent price! Anybody interested? You can contact me by e-mail at fanmantoo@aol.com or by phone at (704) 577-4524!

Happy hunting,
Fred

Anytime a new model comes out, dealers usually squeeze the public for every cent it can get just because they want to be the first on the block with the new 2004 model. Save some money and be patient until the rush is over in about 6 months.

Total Base and Options
$35700 (retail)

Interestingly enough, knowing I had the X plan to fall back on, I called a couple local dealers to see what I could do "on my own." One wouldn't part with any more than $1000 under MSRP. Another would go as far as $1000 over Invoice. But a third was willing to sell for $100 over invoice on an order.

Of course with X plan, I got $65.12 under invoice and $4189.12 under MSRP.

Is it me, or is this A LOT of money to be spending on a half ton truck? My God, those prices are outrageous!!!!

I guess Ford did do the right thing by themselves with this new design, it just appeals to an entirely different type of buyer I guess.

I'm glad you guys feel so good about your purchases, but in all honesty the only way I could bring myself to part with more than 30 grand for any truck is if it had dual rear wheels and a diesel engine- and at that point I'd be seriously asking myself if I really need either-but for more than 30G's it better have both.

With the sole exception of the F150 Reg Cab XL with 7700lb payload pkg, none of these vehicles offer a whole lot of "truck" so to speak, their more like SUV's with 5' pickup beds attached.
By the time your done with the Super cab or Screw, and add the 4wd, and almost every option available, theres not much GVWR left over for much else. Add the 4 or so passengers you buy the truck to seat, and your probably looking at no more than 5-600lbs left over for payload/tongue load - ouch!

WAY too much for so little "truck" IMO- but again I realise it takes a certain type of buyer to be willing to pay so much for this type of vehicle, it's a winner for Ford no doubt...at least it's not a Titan :D.

Just though you might want a truck buyers perspective on this- but maybe not.

Enjoy.

jberkshire 02-09-2004 08:21 AM

Sticker price for mostly loaded '04 screw lariat was $39,100.

traded '02 f250 screw w/7.3 diesel w/ 42k mi for $29,700. Trade Diff: $9,400

(I owed 23k) With 0 Down, financed $32,400 at 3.9% .

Payments actually went down $95 per month.

I just went to the dealer for an oil change.

rferoni 02-09-2004 08:34 AM

I'd have to disagree Sinister, except for the price part....30g's is definately alot of money. What I don't get tho is when you say these trucks don't have a whole lot to offer and that they are like SUV's. The Ford F-150 out does every 1/2 ton truck out there and all previous models also. It wouldn't be in Fords' best interest to build a truck that doesn't get better(towing, payload capacity, comfort, etc..)every year. I think one thing you have to remember is that this IS a 1/2 ton truck. I would assume that most people buying a 1/2 ton truck in any of the better trimlines(STX, XLT, FX4, Lariat) are daily drivers and only use the truck for a truck every now and then. Anyone needing a true workhorse is either getting the XL w/heavy payload pkg or a Superduty.

JMHO,

Ron

sinister73 02-09-2004 09:07 AM

Granted thats true- and it's why I said "This truck is made specifically for a certain market"- the one you yourself described.
And it is doing very well. It is a well made pickup truck- the best 1/2 ton ever by far- but it still has weight limitations- the more weight it carries from body, drive, and option configurations- the less truck there is left over for what trucks are typically used for-but again, for the customers to whom this product is marketed that dosent matter much. It's definately not a mini van.

Im absolutely positive that there are a good many people who would be willing to pay MORE for this truck than a comparably equipt one ton diesel, but to my way of thinking you'd be getting ALOT less truck, and one which costs Ford ALOT less to make which = much bigger profits btw.
