Totaled the Excursion.

Just cleared the accident scene, wife was driving our Excursion and rear ended a vehicle on the freeway after another vehicle had stopped in front of that one. Thankfully she is ok, not even a scratch. Sadly, the Excursion will be totaled I'm sure.

Now comes dealing with the insurance company and hopefully getting a decent settlement for it. Thankfully we still had full coverage on it. Unfortunately, we probably won't be looking for another Excursion. We loved the size and the space when we got it, but now our needs have changed.

Will update this thread as the insurance process plays out.

Pretty bummed, but glad the wife is ok.

steve2z 08-16-2017 02:48 PM

Glad she's ok!Sorry about the truck though!

Don Naslund 08-16-2017 02:50 PM

It doesn't look that bad, a few new parts, a wash and wax, its good as new.

hwybee22 08-16-2017 03:29 PM

So sorry to hear this, but glad to hear that the wife is fine. Did the airbags deploy? It definitely looks like there's frame damage.

agsmv1 08-16-2017 03:31 PM

That stinks! Thank goodness everyone is safe, which in the end is the only thing that matters.

Romanova 08-16-2017 03:40 PM

No airbag deployment, which struck me as odd. Figured they would have tripped...

For those that don't know, I looked for a long time before buying this Ex. I had to have one that was a southern car, 2WD, V-10, and 2nd row captains chairs.... took awhile before this one came along. Enjoyed 4 years of fine service from it.

Oldguyfl 08-16-2017 04:10 PM

Glad she is ok

That will just buff out !!

Krazee Matt 08-16-2017 05:21 PM

NOOOOOooooo

What is it with Texas and X's lately... mine, yours, and two others from a local group...

Glad your wife is safe and not hurt. My airbags didn't go off either, neither did the other two rigs. I know they have a situational deployment to prevent harm rather than good, but it's been a variety of accidents now and not one deployment. I wonder what's up with that.

My insurance process took about two weeks with Geico. Just keep in mind once they total it, the claim is closed and the rental coverage goes away. Main downside to a total write off... emergency car shopping

travs66 08-16-2017 05:40 PM

Glad your wife is ok and sorry about the X.

Stewart_H 08-16-2017 06:43 PM

Damn glad your wife is ok!

Hope everyone else was too.

Not sure... maybe it's this miserable weather.

Thankfully I have take home work car and we have an old Scion so there is no need for a rental car or emergency car shopping. Already toying around with something like an 06-09 Lexus GX470 for a replacement if the Excursion does indeed get totaled.

Will keep the thread updated.

I do like the wheels. }>

Bummer on the wreck, glad wifey came through OK. Collision like that and it's good to be in the larger vehicle!

unleashd 08-16-2017 08:56 PM

Glad to note that your wife, and possibly others are all safe. Sad to see the fate of the EX.

WE3ZS 08-16-2017 09:19 PM

Glad to hear that your wife is OK, very sorry to see such a nice EX get wrecked.

ToolmakerRob 08-16-2017 09:24 PM

Sad to see your Ex is most likely totaled. Glad to see your wife was alright. That is part of the reason why we drive these tanks.

mecdac 08-16-2017 09:24 PM

Sorry to hear about this, Tyler. Glad to hear all occupants were unscathed.
Best of luck in your endeavors with the insurance company and possible replacement.

Nicmike 08-17-2017 01:19 AM

Glad she is ok. I can get you parts to fix all that minor damage...}> and cheap...

Would hate to lose another member of this fine group we have.

fordboy2 08-17-2017 06:16 AM

Glad everyone is safe, I wouldn't bet that it's totaled though. To me the damage doesn't look that bad. But always hard to tell from an internet pic.

SmackDaddy 08-17-2017 06:36 AM

Glad everyone is OK! I am in South Houston for a week taking classes, let's see if I can keep from running over anyone...

I'm not going ANYwhere, this is still my forum home online regardless of the truck I now have

I should be off this weekend and back in town til Sunday evening. So it's more like I have Saturday off after all the driving to and from :-roll

HASC classes?

carbon coupe 08-17-2017 10:50 AM

Good to hear nobody was injured. Its sad to see such a nice rust free EX go by way of salvage. I will mourn the solid rockers and doors.

Bently_Coop 08-17-2017 11:25 AM

Glad to here everyone is alright, sucks about the Excursion, looked like a sharp rig. :-jammin

sessland 08-17-2017 12:19 PM

Another EX that sacrificed itself to make sure everyone made it home.

I know our vehicles are getting old and don't have the latest technology and engineering, but they sure do seem to hold up pretty good.

Good to hear everyone is safe

Don Naslund 08-17-2017 12:27 PM

Looks like its time to take the front of a newer super and bolt it onto your ex. If the insurance co wants to total it, buy it back for a project vehicle. Maybe a little over $3,000 in parts.

andym 08-17-2017 02:01 PM

Sorry to hear but at least everyone yada yada.

I'm going to say it's totaled. The tow hooks on front don't look level and those are bolted to the frame. :(

Buy it back and sell the parts. Those second row captains chairs are rare as hens teeth.

Plus some other things are equally rare:

rear liftgate
barn doors
rear vent windows
side vent motors
3rd row seat for a limited
rear headliner with A/C vents (I know of 2 threads where folks want to retrofit rear A/C)
rear A/c unit
3rd row seat belts
2nd row seat belts

wpnaes 08-17-2017 02:18 PM

Glad everyone is ok! Let us know what your next vehicle ends up being.

dvldog458 08-17-2017 07:27 PM

That sux bro! Sorry to hear about the crash.

High Cetane 08-17-2017 07:32 PM

Sorry to hear about your truck, but thankful the bride is okay.

Romanova 08-17-2017 09:06 PM

Insurance called earlier and advised that it is totaled. The force of the impact caused frame damage and the motor got pushed back a bit. Told the adjuster to give me the buy back price just out of curiosity, though we will be taking the settlement. Really just don't have the time or the room to deal with parting it out just to make a few thousand bucks.

The adjuster is working on coming up with a value, which might be difficult for a similar spec Excursion. I have to submit my service records in order to help bump the value up. Will report back when the settlement is presented and agreed upon.

We are currently looking at 07-09 Lexus GX470s. Was looking at the Toyota Sequoia, but really like the looks of the first generation GX470... just a matter of trying to find the right one.

hwybee22 08-18-2017 01:59 AM

My wife's sister has the 2009 Lexus GX 470 and she hasn't had any problems.

andym 08-18-2017 08:11 AM

My ex-girlfriend had an '06 GX 470. It was a nice, luxurious, powerful vehicle. Never had any maintenance issues with it either, just tires and brakes.

ExxWhy 08-18-2017 08:25 AM

Is that a Toyota Highlander?

No, it's much bigger. Seats 7, but not comfortably. It's a Sequoia.

wildstang 08-18-2017 08:34 AM

Huh, this thread went down hill fast talking abut turdyotas and lexus }>

Scndsin 08-18-2017 08:51 AM

Buy it back & sell it to someone on the board for 0, 5 or 10%+ or whatever floats your boat.

Is a frame swap out of the question for the adventurous?

Hate to see that go to a yard or turn into a cube.

Greenscobie86 08-18-2017 09:10 AM

Sorry to hear about your loss, most importantly your wife is OK.

I'm sure this truck will be a nice candidate for a front end conversion, its rust free and looks to be nicely spec'd out.

GX470's are nice trucks and are reliable as hell.

metru 08-18-2017 10:38 AM

glad noone got hurt in the accident sad to see another ex bite the bullet though specially since this one doesn't look as bad as some accidents i seen these in. if the cab and excursion part of the frame is still safe an only the super duty front engine part got bent couldn't you cut/unbolt the f250 part of the frame measure and get another good frame cut an bolt it up? i would imagen the bent part of the frame is the crumple zone and motor mounts are damaged since motor is pushed back

5.9and6.0 08-18-2017 04:16 PM

Any pictures of the other vehicle?
And did I read second row captain chairs :p
