2-cycle oil in fuel
For a 200:1 concentration, it would be 12.8 fl.oz., per 20 gallons of fuel or 24.3 fl.oz. per tank. Does that sound right? Who is running it and what are the benefits?

I run walmart supertech two stroke. I generally pour one quart in with a fill up (30 gals at 1/4 tank)
It replaces the lubricants that the Ultra Low Sulfur diesel doesn't provide. There are many options, but I prefer the 2 stroke. it keeps the fuel system lubricated, fuel pump, & injectors. It makes my truck a little quieter. Here is a chart that shows the benefits of additives . |
I was using Diesel Kleen, but I think I will try the 2-cycle oil. Does Wal-Mart sell the oil in a gallon jug?
|
I'm planning on buying #4 in Franko's list...the OptiLube Summer Blend. It's dirt cheap per tank, but you have to buy something like $60 worth per pop. That's OK, it'll keep!

I watch the cycle store ads they will always have a 2-cycle synthetic on sale usually the Polaris blue in 1 gallon for around 25.00 is what I end up with but occasionally the Bel-Ray, or Torque Plus I just buy the gallons that are cheapest, I had lots of smoking issues with the super tech in the kids little quads years ago ^so I don't buy it for that reason, probably would be ok though!

Thanks for info Franko. Curious about who did the study your chart is from and who paid for it?

I use whatever 2 cycle oil is laying around. I don't measure perfect amounts, just dump in half a quart or whatever feels right.

My local boat dealer sells a variety ofi 2-stroke oils in bulk.
|
Just make sure it is TC-3W ashless oil, which the walmart supertech 2-stroke is.

Thanks Frank for posting the chart. It Helps !! Because I have been running 800:1 to 600:1 with Blue Marble. I use it in all my 2 strokes and I love it. Smells like french fries when I use it in my outboard with ValveTech marine fuel. I use it in the truck since I have it laying around and didn't know how much to use. But to run it at 200:1 it will cost to much. Blue Marble® -- High Performance 2-Cycle Oil | Products | High Performance 2-Cycle Oil
So, I think I'll go to Wally world and buy a gallon of the cheap stuff. In the winter I run XDP Polar. |
two-stoke oil plus Diesel Kleen
I started using 2-cycle Walmart oil at 1 ounce per gallon as soon as I got my new-to-me 7.3l. It made a significant difference in engine noise.
When I combine that with Diesel Kleen I swear I barely recognize this truck. It is so much damn quieter, I just cant get over it! I am tempted to try some Rotella full synthetic engine oil next....but I am afraid I might just like the effect too much. Carrying around and adding the additives is kind of annoying...I use a funnel with measurements and an integral valve so I can measure and then dump what ever amount I need into the tank....first 2-stroke oil then Diesel Kleen to wash down the oil out of the funnel. Then I put the funnel in a sealable plastic baggy. Anyone have a better method? |

I havent ever read up or studied about fuel additives. ever since ive owned my 02 7.3 i have put that lucas injector cleaner in it. Is this good or bad. what would be better to use??????

Here is the graduate funnel I use with a valve in it. Hopkins FloTool 10704 Spill Saver Measu-Funnel. Works nicely for measuring and adding 2 stroke or diesel kleen. Just be careful with the little black closure thingamabob at the end...it can come off into your fuel tank...better to remove it before using and then put it back on to keep from dripping after your done.
Amazon.com: Hopkins FloTool 10704 Spill Saver Measu-Funnel: Automotive Now...if it had a lid...it would be perfect. |

You can premix your blend and get some good containers for it. Use nail polish to increment the outside of the container for a qty reference, PS won't dissolve the nail polish. This link has good containers for additive, look at the 32 oz. barrier-lined (for odor): KAUTEX UN-APPROVED AGROCHEMICAL LEAK PROOF BOTTLES HDPE – Freund Container
Thats a good idea. Or perhaps when I finish up the large Stabilfuel bottle I can use that...it allows you to measure and pour in the same bottle. Then again it doesnt really hold much. |
