Yup, Lake Winnipesaukee. When I lived down that way I prefered Lake Wentworth, Myself.

Oh yeah... don't want to hit it on a summer holiday tho....seems you could walk across the lake on all the boats! They do have some pretty cool scenic boat tours, too! :-X15

sddesigns 07-06-2011 08:18 AM

There are a few lakes around the we want to take the boat to, that is one of them, Lake Champlain in Vermont, and Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia!

Lake Champlain is beautiful, never personally had my boat out there tho, was in VT for 4 years for school, that area was one of the parts of VT I like more.

I spend most of my "boat time" on Long Lake and/or Lake Sebago in Maine, 99% of the time I launch in Bridgton because it's close to home and both the 2 lakes are connected, so I can go to 5 different towns by being on the 2 lakes or between! (Sebago is HUGE!) It's also cool because there are a few stores w/ docks that you can pull up to gor gas/food/beer/ice and whatnot. :-X22

I have heard they are trying to close the locks between the 2 tho, because of milfoil. I really hope they don't, its a lot of fun to go across the river/locks going from one to the other. :(

My family comes from Vermont and we traveled a lot up there when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's.

Where did the Milfoil come from, do they know?

I have no idea where it originated from, but it IS nasty stuff. (And I am NOT any sort of eco nut, far from one!) Problem is, one little piece (on a boat/trailer/paddle) can spread across an entire watershed, killing the natural plants and changing the entire (local) ecosystem. It's like the asian carp down south, they are making their way north to the great lakes, we have slowed them down, but we can't stop them. Once an invasive species (specifically a hardy one) take over, thats it, game over. :(

There is this river system up northern Maine that I LOVED to fly fish as a kid, always had loads of trout and salmon. Good luck now. Its all crappies and Pike. (Or half breeds, "Chubs" - Half salmon, half bass.) Some jackhole decided "I like to fish for pike more" so he transported some in, and they are wiping out the naturally occouring fish. It stinks. I caught a pike in one of the river outlets 10 miles from the lake the pike were released in. It was as long as my arm from pit to finger tips, I could fit my entire fist in it's mouth. :-arrgh
