What have you done to your truck today?

The guys in the 87-96 forum have one of these, so I thought I would start one too. Play along if you like...

Today I swapped instrument clusters because the only gauge that worked was the ammeter. Here is the damaged ic (minus the ammeter that I took out for the other ic):

closer view of tach connections:

Later I will custom wire my tach so it works (the ic I swapped in had no traces for the tach).

00Boss 10-24-2010 03:12 PM

I saw that thread to. I drove my truck lookin for an open library with no success.

Fordzilla80 10-24-2010 03:13 PM

I hope you used a tach cluster for another 80 truck or you're gonna have a few problems. lol.

Today I took a nice long look at my new Radio bezel, and realized that I really want to redo my headliner and have the seat re-upholstered so my interior will be complete. Oh yea, I need new carpet too.lol.

My Library was open today, but their collection sucks. I couldn't find anything on Agriculture for my essay aside from how to take care of your steer and gilts.

6fifty_f1fifty 10-24-2010 03:15 PM

Yep I sure did, I had a cluster from my dd, that I swapped out when I found a tach/trip cluster on a truck in the jy...

Fordzilla80 10-24-2010 03:18 PM

Alright sweet.

I actually have a 1982 Cluster in my truck, but I haven't even played with the lights yet to figure out what I need to switch around and what won't work.

I had an 81 printed circuit on my old 1980 cluster, and all I had to do was swap the turn signal and brake indicators. I'm hoping it will be the same with the 82 cluster.

lgwilson 10-24-2010 04:47 PM

Today? Nothing. I'm at a standstill on my project until I get my headliner and seats back from upholsterer. I did stop to look in the cab and admire the new carpet and newly dyed panels.

okiepc1 10-24-2010 05:47 PM

While the weather is nice getting ready for fall, changed oil & filter, checked antifreeze, tire pressure & new wiper blades.

Today? I drove my 86 for the first time! It moved today under it's own power for the first time in close to 2 years. It has lots of power as I hoped it would from the rebuilt 300. I just drove around the neighborhood but that's a good first step.

desperado_18_2000 10-24-2010 07:14 PM

While I didn't really do much today due to the weather I did however get a few things done yesterday. I relocated my power outlet from the ashtray to the glove box, and installed my gauges where the ashtray used to be. I also took some rattle can metallic silver paint to my rusty rear bumper and sprayed it, granted it isn't a fix but it does look heaps better than it did before. :-jammin

This is just a buildup to my "build" thread I'm going to be posting in the next few days.

ihateminimumwage 10-24-2010 07:26 PM

Nothing today... But I installed my Hydroboost brake setup yesterday :-D

Did you put anything non-stock on your 300?

LARIAT 85 10-24-2010 08:14 PM

Today:

I changed out my thermostat housing for a shiny new aluminum one I picked up from CarQuest. I finally got rid of that annoying little leak! :)

I re-routed my spark plug wires just to make it look neater and to keep them separated.

Then, I took some different colored electrical tape and wrapped the ends of my vacuum hoses (a tip I got from 81-F-150-Explorer), just to make it a bit more organized and I can tell at a glance what's what.

TheKirbyMan 10-24-2010 09:16 PM

Yesterday, I changed the filter in my transmission (C6), as well as the pan gasket and trans fluid. Wasn't hard at all. Now it shifts much better and best of all, no more shudder.

Tomorrow I'm going to rotate my front tires and see about figuring out why I'm only getting air out of the defrost vent instead of the dash registers. (I think I pulled something loose from the HVAC controls accidentally).

bghnkinf250 10-24-2010 09:55 PM

Nothing for me today - my truck is still parked at work (driving a work car). I did though take out my GMC...to get down spouts and put them up in the rain to make my wife happy. I wish I had been working on my truck.

oddshot 10-25-2010 07:47 AM

Finished filling out the End User Cert for this:

There are many 1 1/2 ton trailers
But this one is MINE.

The bed, stakes sides, bows and tarp are gonna get mounted on the chassis of my F100 to make the Mini Deuce and a Half of my dreams.

85_Blue 10-25-2010 11:28 AM

Got all my passenger side front suspension bushings replaced, but I am waiting on a thread extender for the 2" coil lift I am putting on her before I move onto the ds. Hopefully tomorrow I will finish up the ds!!!

AndrewDahlin 10-25-2010 12:56 PM

Today I found out that I have teeth missing on my flexplate and I have 20 bucks saved up to fix it with, that should be enough right?

6fifty_f1fifty 10-25-2010 02:14 PM

depends on if you are going to remove the flexplate yourself... The part is about 20, but a machine shop should press it on I think, I had Napa put on a new ring gear on my flywheel when I had it turned for a new clutch.

Fordzilla80 10-25-2010 02:27 PM

I came to the conclusion that Black interiors are not hotter than any other color interior. It all depends on how the sun shines on the vehicle.

Harfend 10-25-2010 02:29 PM

I did'nt do it today but I recently installed my latest JY find! A stunning leather wrapped Ford steering wheel that I paid $20 bucks for! :-headbangIf any one needs a nice rubber wrapped or uncracked plastic one just PM me!

Good Luck!
HARFEND

Stangrcr1 10-25-2010 03:08 PM

Drove my 82 the 9 miles to work, like always. Will drive the 9 miles back in about 2 hours. May stop by the JY and look for a radio on my way home.

Edelbrock 500 (though the choke is giving me problems)
Offenhauser DP intake
EFI exhaust manifolds
Summit Racing exhaust system
D.U.I distributor
Electric fan

Long block was rebuilt stock.

dohc_chump 10-25-2010 04:42 PM

today i drove over to where my '84 f150 and dumpster project are stored. i stared at my '84 and wished it was done. i'm rebuilding the front end, but at a standstill till i get paid to purchase some unforeseen parts. so i planned on laying in the rest of the underdash wiring on the dumpster and switching over the m/t pedal supports to a/t... but washed my jeep instead and went home. i worked all weekend on family and friends vehicles and had no energy for working on my own today. :-X17

Good to know, mine was built stock too, I wasn't sure about putting an a different cam or anything like that.

How you doing milage wise on it? Mine gets about 14 with the egr and vac advance disconnected. (Egr is not connected because I don't have the pipe, and the vac advange is disconnected because the egr is disconnected, talk about chasing yuor tail.)

Beaverman 10-25-2010 10:58 PM

Drove the 85 f150 4x4 through some logging trails and skid roads in search of the elusive Columbian Black Tail Deer, more searching tomorrow!

76ranger 10-25-2010 11:02 PM

suprisingly today was the first days i can rember that i havent done anyting to at least one of my trucks, well besides driving, it felt like a very unproductive day

Still rebuilding it, it's not registered yet so only test runs up and down the neighborhood.

TheKirbyMan 10-26-2010 01:31 PM

Today I should be replacing the carburetor gaskets and then cleaning and regapping my spark plugs. Yesterday my truck seemed to have a miss at idle so hopefully this might help (it ran perfect at higher RPM though).

And I'm very happy to say that my transmission shifts better, is quieter and smoother running, and doesn't make any squealing noises after long trips, now that I've replaced the filter. I still have a tiny little leak at the pan for some reason (all the bolts are very snug), but it's nowhere near what it leaked before.

alhauger 10-26-2010 04:27 PM

I drove about 60 miles to pick up a new-to-me stand up deep freeze. It gave me plenty of time to daydream about just how i want the interior. Tommorow i think i will go to the pick n pull to get what i need to fix my windows. On a related note, could I just hook up my battery directly to the power window motors to get them to roll up without blowing up the motors? I need new switches, but for the meantime, I just want the windows up.

okiepc1 10-26-2010 05:01 PM

If you have a battery charger you can use it to roll up your windows, if not, yes, you can use a battery.

Getting ready to go pick it up from getting the windows tinted today. I also have to find the time to replace the passenger side exhaust manifold which i am not looking forward too...

TheKirbyMan 10-27-2010 12:27 AM

Today I replaced my carburetor gasket and spacer. I was hoping it'd fix my rough idle, but I noticed no difference. Oh well, I needed to do it anyway, the gaskets I had were like five or six years old.

Tomorrow I hope to be able to find the time to clean and regap my spark plugs.

14&Ford 10-27-2010 01:36 AM

Well, i cleaned up my trailer hitch and knocked off all the surface rust and peeling paint. I repainted it with Rustoleum and touched up the steel ceter section of my chrome step bumper- all the while giving a how-to lesson to my 14 yr old daughter that i bought the truck for in the first place. Also went to the parts store to by oil and a filter so i can show her how to change oil for the first time this weekend. Thats if it ever stops raining here in oregon (doubtful). Last check, she was on line pricing out a new interior on LMC Truck's Website:-X22. Im off to a great start and te truck has only been in the driveway a week:D
