Friday i got the through out bearing and new tranny mount in. But while im putting the trans tunnel cover back on i notice there is a new proces NP logo on the top of my tansmission:-X15. normaly i wouldent be concerned but my build sheet says this truck has a
Borg Warner T18, my dad says the same thing and he has had it since 86. so dose anyone have a clue why a Borg Warner Tranny has a NP logo on it.:-huh:-huh

ctubutis 06-19-2011 05:23 PM

It's likely not a Borg Watner tranny would be my guess.

What have I done today? Bought new windshield wiper blades, and filled both tanks up to the top.

I gather you haven't yet trained it to pass a gas station. If yours is like my 351w it has a significant thirst.

Sw1tchfoot 06-20-2011 11:32 AM

Mine 302 has the thirst, it checked out at 12.6 mpg. 12.9 by calculating the speedometer inaccuracy.

I put a vacuum guage in the cab and discovered that it pulls 8-10" of vacuum idling in gear, and 5" during most mild acceleration. The 4160 has a 6.5" power valve. I don't know if I should go for a 4.5" or put my dual stage in it. The second stage would be open most of the time.

I thought a 302 would do better. That's almost exactly what I get on the highway after figuring odo inaccuracy - the speedo is very close but not the odo. What gears are you running?

That vacuum would seem to suggest a high gear. And, since you have the PV open frequently it will kill the mileage. I'd try the 4.5" and see what happens. If you go too far the engine won't do much until you really get down on it and that takes the fun out of driving.

Dang, mid 12's are where my truck goes when I tie on a heavy trailer......
Prolly be a bit better if I were to drop the rear gear down from the 2.75, but only for towing. I doubt it would go much over the 15-17 it gets empty. It could, but I doubt it would be much.

I installed my new (used) instrument panel today. Now I have a tach and a trip meter. I rolled the odometer back to 2,547, the mileage on my truck. It had just rolled over the 1,00,000 mark a couple weeks ago and I wanted to keep it accurate. So far it appears to be working.

jthorngate3 06-20-2011 05:03 PM

The best I get for mileage is about 13. I average around 11 right now.

It's got a 2.75 gear.

According the the internet my stock 302 made peak torque at 1800 rpms, now it probably makes peak torque between 3000-4000 rpm.

Picked up a M5OD, along with the flywheel and clutch to swap into my F100. I'll be kind of sad to see the granny gear go, but I need the overdrive and close ratios for the freeway drive to school next year.

Got the black and clear on today.

Mine has an '89 mustang, roller 302 w/edlebrock 1406 (600cfm): C6 : 9" w/3.25's : 225/75R15 Tires, I seem to get around 11-13MPG avg (corrected). I'm going to drop it back down to the 2.75's that were originally in it, i'm also going to bump up to a 255/70R15 tire.

Sw1tchfoot 06-20-2011 07:29 PM

That looks sweet.

BTW - Does anyone have the pinout for the plug that goes into the instrument cluster?

TheKirbyMan 06-22-2011 12:14 AM

Pulled the plastic step off the rear bumper the other day....when I hit the back of my truck when I was pulling my Jeep home, it bent the bumper in such a way that the step piece was keeping the tailgate from closing right. So off it came and away the problem went. lol

Cleaned out and swept the bed the other day too.

This is what I dragged home...can't wait to get to work on it!

Rebuilt the carb and set the timing to around 7 degrees before when hot. Sure does run better than it did. (suddenly had developed a stall-at-stops problem) More rust-stopper underneath and some spray paint on the undercarriage and hitch. Oh, and caulked the crappy patch job on the cap where apparently a large tree branch had punched a hole in it while it had been banished to a woods for 2.5 years by the PO... Now maybe that 4-gear OD tranny? ;-)
