I think the blue truck will be a better comparison to the 6.2. Tire size being the main reason in my mind.
Also the 6.2 in the dyno test had a few extra HP options and 2% gear advantage. This may have accounted for 8-12 more HP and a little bit of torque for the 6.2. I think the spread of the 7.3 vs 6.2 may be a little wider than is on the surface. Not bashing the 6.2 I really like the color of your new truck. |

I really want to drive one and I really want to like it. I would love a 7.3L Tremor to replace my current GM product. I was just hoping for a little more from this engine. Looks like Ford is purposely electronically sand-bagging this engine.

Please post some MPG numbers and driving impressions with the 3.55's. Looking forward to the dyno results.

Theoretically, rear axle ratio differences shouldn't affect dyno numbers. In fact, from some of what I have read, it seem that there is often a slight decrease in dyno hp/tq with higher (numerically) rear axle ratios. In practice, chassis dynos can vary from run-to-run or day-to-day as others have stated. |
First heavier tow , this around maybe 9500-10000 lbs , big turbo Ranger project (metal deck trailer 15680 GVWR).. still in stock form / tune. Tow / Haul mode...Towed well speeds from stop and go to 60 mph 7.3L will pull low RPMs in 8th 9th at 60 mph . shifting is still a little too sluggish for our tastes need cleaned up (my 2 cents) engine braking is decent, one advantage of having all these cubic inches onces it down shifts it brakes the load extremely well less brake input , but for stock form truck is really impressive the big 2 things for me is , low end torque of the 7.3L able to pull at 1500-2000 rpms and the 10 speed trans , your able to drop down a gear and it maintains. Very confident towing combination! Cant wait to get more weight to test out even more.

thanks, I really appreciate your testing of this truck. I also feel like this engine has a ton of performance potential, but it is nice to see it is capable of easily handling that load on 35's. what was your fuel economy with that much weight?

This is why I decided to change my 4.30 order to 3.73's. I'll be able to drop 3 to 4 gears and reserve the last for HWY and I expect better mileage. J |
Thank you fordmbd / 5 Star. It seems to me that a lot of people are looking at and comparing only the max numbers. I think for me the low end from 1500-2000 rpms is just as, if not more important like you mentioned above. I don't plan on running my new truck at its max or WOT all that much. I hoping the the 7.3L will have a noticeable advantage on the low end over the 2011 6.2L I have now and make for a better tow vehicle. I don't want to go diesel and the 6.2 has been very good but a little more would be nice. Thanks again for posting.

More towing this morning
Towed 5 star trailer little over 70 miles this morning with the Tremor truck still on 87 octane , towed in 9th gear all the way with cruise on 66 mph ( yea i dont tow fast) 1925 RPMs lie o meter shows 9.6 mph. , only downshifted once from 9th to 7th over one over pass but thats it. never took cruise off the entire time. i have my tire pressure set at 60 psi all tires, 80 psi is too much in rear , aka thats why i have a TPMS light in case someone asks. We get some more data with the blue 3.55 truck here shortly. happy monday ! https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...81dd7c4f1e.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...084ef36c8b.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...3751a6716a.jpg |
