Ok that was the question the LMC pans don't come that way I was thinking that you had either saved the ones from your old pans and welded them in like I did or you did some thing to make the recess like in this picture

There is no picture in your post to be loaded... did you push the green Insert button at the top?

The AC swap starts!

Well the time has come to do what I was told not to do……….the install of factory AC in a non-AC truck. As some pointed out the firewalls are different between the 2 trucks.
Non-AC

AC

I was thinking of using paper and trace out the AC cutouts and transfer it over to the non-AC firewall. After looking it over & over I caned that and decided to go with what my first plan was, to swap the AC firewall into the non-AC truck. After doing the floors & rockers do you think I have the skill?

I started to drill out the spot welds. I started from the outside and working to the middle, made it up to the trany hump.
I think I am going to take from the side up to just short of the gas pedal mount from the AC truck and figure out just were I will make the splice on the good cab.

As I said before I did not want to swap the whole firewall because of the brake pedal brace on the wall that goes pretty high.

Before I could get a good look at the AC firewall I had to remove the heat/AC box.

And before that the dash with the wiring harness was pulled.

All this was done from 5:30am to 5:30pm stopping for tea & bathroom breaks, no lunch!

The way I remember it, nobody told you to NOT do anything, you just had lots of information thrown at you suggesting that it's not something one just does on a sunny, Saturday afternoon. This was before we knew who you are and your skills & abilities... I kinda hafta be careful how I talk out here sometimes; I don't want to talk down to people like I'm on some sort of pedestal, nor do I want to needlessly explain stuff that somebody already knows; people get pissed in both instances and I try to not do that.

It's all in fun :-drink
Thought I would just bring it up as it was questioned when I first joined up when I said what I wanted to do.
When I was drilling out the spot welds it kept going thru my head it was not the thing to do.
So call me crazy :-X21 for doing it.

In pulling it apart I did find I am missing some of the small vac. lines from the controls to the doors on the box and think 1 cable as I see a clamp & link were it should hook up.
I will have to check the controls that members sent me to see how the vac lines & cable get hooked up and what I need to make it all work like factory again.

Nah, nobody's gonna call you crazy; cripe, man, you should see my garage and all my projects. My primary project ~10 years ago was my truck, I have a replacement cab + bed in my brother's back yard + a collection of A/C parts so I can install factory A/C into the thing... someday... life happened and the truck is currently parked in my brother's back yard ~10 miles away and hasn't moved in at least a year now.

~~

IIRC the only cable that controls the HVAC system with factory air runs from the dash panel to the temperature-control door contained in the heater/evaporator box under the hood, all else is vacuum-controlled.

Chris, I will not tell you how long I have been restoring/moding a 70 AMC Javelin. I have had it 20+ years and have not driven more than a 1/4 mile from mom & dads house to mine back in CT. I have moved it in/out of the garage down here in NC this last year than all the time in CT.
It has been side lined to work on the P/U.

Gary, Thank you for posting that up hope I can find it when I put the truck back together.
I now see where that vac supply comes from as I have the hose & check valve and I marked it manifold but did not know where the other line from the check went. I don't remember a vac can on the fender but will look.

It'll be on my web site when you are ready. Some use the vacuum ball and some a can. I don't know the rhyme nor reason for why, and they may have gotten swapped at some point but they still work.

Also, typically the HVAC vacuum actually comes from the little plastic manifold that is on the firewall, called a "vacuum distribution block", and it gets it source from the intake manifold. It is better depicted on this page: Vacuum - Gary's Garagemahal and looks like:

FuzzFace2 03-26-2016 09:55 PM

I was going to move the block over to the good cab.
You can see it still on the AC firewall
http://cars.grantskingdom1.com/var/r...326_134700.jpg

That also helps. Being the 2 trucks are different AC non-AC and both have been messed with before I bought them.

As I remember it, the can was used for the engine/emissions controls system and is described as a VRESR (Vacuum Reservoir) on the VECI (Vehicle Emission Control Information) label, aka the vacuum hose routing table located on the radiator support under the hood.

The HVAC vacuum system uses the plastic ball as its reservoir, this system is an optional add-on and is installed only when factory A/C is installed and none of it plumbing & devices are described on the VECI label.

FuzzFace2 03-27-2016 06:41 AM

I did look at the 2 labels in passing when cleaning the garage before doing any work yesterday and now that you say that I do not remember seeing anything of HVAC hose routing.

I only looked to see if the labels were different between the 2 trucks and other than listing of parts are in different areas of the labels and the PN of the 2 labels different they looked to have the same parts.

When I am out in the garage today I will check the labels again on the HVAC stuff and look for the HVAC "ball" or any type of vac reserve.
Thanks
