Ran all around today trying to get a belt for a massive shop fan I picked up the other day. Finally found one at NAPA...$23. The fan was free though lol.

Drove my '83 F-250 for the 10th day in a row. A whopping 10 mile round trip each time! This truck hasn't moved outside of the parking lot in over a year. Been trying to get some seat time in it and figure out what it needs before putting it back on the road. This time I got it on the highway and found out the rear tires are way out of round at 60mph. The engine knocking sound I've been hearing must not be internal, probably something else clanking around like a pulley or something. It desperately needs shocks and an alignment, and the brake booster leaks vacuum like a son of a gun. Oh yeah, and driving around with all the window run channels, felt, and door weatherstrip off the truck is a rattling , air-leaking nightmare.
Going to replace all the weatherstrip stuff in the next couple of weeks. Gather up my suspension rebuild parts and get it done. Replace the tires/shocks/booster. Then tear into the motor and install the new heads, cam, lifters, timing chain, oil pump, intake, carb, distributor, and headers, and build a new dual exhaust system for it. Then it should be road ready with twice the power to boot! |
Mine clatters when it gets hot, someone suggested to me that it could be the gas sold here...
Took about 640 pounds of stuff to the scrap yard today for a friend, made him $55....picking up two fridges today as well as a bunch of other junk. After work Friday I'll start gutting everything and see about getting me some dough. |
The noise I hear is faint, and only under light throttle, just over idle. Sounds like it could be a rod, but it goes away when I mash the pedal. I have a cracked head or blown gasket in the #6 cylinder for sure, but it runs perfect and doesn't smoke or have water in oil or oil in water. It could have something to do with that, but I don't know. I'm going to yank the motor out and tear it down for a rebuild anyway, so no biggie.
I drove it into town this morning to get some parts for my other truck. I gotta get some tires on this thing asap! |
Primed my bed today:D

I made a junk yard run today in preparation for this weekend. I had to get some seat mounts from a bench seat. I'm changing the interior on my truck to bucket seats with a center console. Also removing the vinyl mat and installing carpet. I'll post pics when I'm finished.

Treated it to six quarts of 10w-40, two bottles of ZDDP, and a fresh NAPA bigass-oil filter.

I have (well yesterday) treated the 81 to a waterpump, and master cylinder. The 86 has gotten new diff fluid, and this evening will be getting a new fuelpump and line up to the carb.

Pulled the seats and the vinyl mat out of my truck tonight, in preparation for the remodel of my interior.
Look at what I found. http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/.../Photo0113.jpg |
Finally got word back from my transmission guy today, that the truck is running and driving great! I think it was well worth the cost to get my truck back. I've still got a lot more work to do though so its not all said and done yet.
I really need to update my build thread again, but that'll come when I get it back tomorrow. Still gotta finish up the interior, install the radio, and a couple other odds&ends. Film at 11.. :-X22 |

Look at what I found. http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/.../Photo0113.jpg The lip onto which the rubber is supposed to attach is totally GONE on mine, you can see through it to the frame below. The cab corners & rockers have been Bondo'd by a PO. I bought an entire new cab from a jy. It had air conditioning and mine doesn't have that so I'll have to figure out how to accommodate that but it should be fairly easy. Maybe I can just find the parts to add factory air to mine..... |
Speaking of floor pans & cab corners, I have those to do myself. Are there any gotchas or tips I need to know? I've got one cab corner already, just haven't had the time to replace it.
