Wow, she looks sharp Nolan62! You don't see very many (ummm, maybe none) that look that good. What size tires are those?

That truck looks immaculate! That is a very nice job. Mind if I ask how much work was needed, and how much it ended up setting you back? I am in the middle of a pretty complete overhaul of my truck, and it would be nice to have an idea. I can't get over how good that looks.

Paint and body work - $3000
Truck - $1500
Engine Rebuild - $1300
Tranny Rebuild - $800
Tires - $500
Brakes - $200
Gas tank - $130
Sending Unit - $70
Interior Paint - $40
Sound system - $650
Carpet - $140
Seat Upolhstery - $225
Misc - $500 (everything under teh hood has been replaced or rebuilt.)

Body shop welded up all the holes from the PO. Installed new floor pans. Replaced the hood, painted both sides. They striped the truck down, not just tape up the trim. Pulled the bed off and painted behind the cab. I just need to put in the carpet, redo the seat and put in the bed floor. I'll have a truck I can drive for many years to come.

I did this:

Tired of the damn thing rattling. When I got it off, all the honeycomb came tumbling out. Flex pipe clamped in place until I can get my buddy to weld in the straight pipe this weekend.

That is precisely why I am doing mine as well. I am going to attempt to add a/c into mine though. That way I will essentially have everything a new truck would offer, but with more classic character.:-jammin

I washed it and put it up for sale, I'll be sad to see it go but fricken excited to bring home an 09 or newer F150.

You are trading out your 7.3 for a newer f-150?

I refused to go back to making payments, high insurance and tags. I just got my 2005 Chevy Colorado paid for. I'll be giving it to my 16yo son to drive very soon. So my F150 will be my only means of transportation, at least until I get my 64 Falcon built! That's why I put so much into this rebuild. I'm getting 18-19mpg, insurance is $52 every 6 months and tags are $18 a year. Plus, I love the looks, waves and comments I get every where I go.

But I can understand you wanting a newer truck. Pick out a good one.

Wonder what that was doing to your mpg and power. Do you notice any difference driving it now?

dirty_d250SD 05-25-2011 10:13 AM

Yea, I know the 7.3 is a great great truck, but Wisconsin Winters are such a hassle with a diesel and I dont have the luxury of parting it inside over night right now. The newer f150's can almost match what im getting for highway miles now that they put the 6 speed suto tranny in them, I used to have a 1986 f150 lifted and stroked that I wish I would have never gotten rid of actually.

I just drove it around the block to make sure everything was ok. Didn't really notice any difference.

I discovered a secret security feature on my '80 F-150:

The detachable gear selector! They can't drive off with it if they can't put it in gear. :-X24

Nice. Mine does that too. Must be the secret security system used in red/red 1980 F150's.......

No matter what I do, that silly pin won't stay locked in place......

Ummmm, is that an old Oklahoma inspection sticker I see on the windshield?

It is indeed; the truck was my grandfather's, and spent its first thirty years near you, in Owasso OK.

That's cool. My truck spent it's first 17 years near Catoosa.
I scraped off my old Ok inspection sticker back 03 or 04, whenever it was that Gov Brad Henry made the statement "With this signature, all Oklahoman's can now scrape off their inspection stickers". So I did.
I thought that was not only an Oklahoma sticker, but a Tulsa county one. Tulsa county and nearby area used a blue one for 79 & newer, and the rest of the state got green, along with pre 79 in the Tulsa area. Blue was for Emmissions check.
