I headed on home (30Mi) and took it to town the next morning, it died before I got to the dealership. After setting untouched for a couple of weeks, the called and said the glow ploug was burned off, and there may be more damage, might need a new motor. On December 19, they called and said a valve was broke, and the piston was ruined, needed a new motor. I have 32k on the truck, I bought it in may of 2010. I was expecting a new motor, but then they called and said there was some rust in the cylinders, and said this could only be caused by me running through water, and flooding the air box WHAT???? First of all, there's no water within 100 miles, I live in west texas and haven't seen rain in a year!!! I know I didn't run through water, and after reading on here , it looks like it is their problem??? Thanks you guys for having this forum, it helped me a lot. Any input on what I need to do?? They have ordered a motor, buy say I will have to pay $20k.???:-huh Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

Make an appt with the servce manager or ford cust service right away about this.

If the truck sat for three weeks...

Also provide your maintance records.

I've got to agree with Senix on this one. Be as detailed as you can with all of your service documentation. Since they have voided your engine warranty be ready for the battle. Hopefully, they'll step up and do the right thing.

Welcome to FTE randito :-X22 You can start a new thread on your engine so the guys can follow it and give advice. Some of the Techs will see your thread title and drop in also to give advice. Enjoy your stay and give as much information as you can in helping solve your particular problem.

Well 1st off if engine was tore down and sitting. It does not take long to get surface rust in the cylinders.
Something sounds bad wrong with this.

Welcome randito.
Take senix's advise; get FCS involved.
Seems they somewhat worked on it between Nov. 21st and Dec. 19th.
If the engine was torn apart that long, it can't be good as HDslider mentioned but maybe Vloney and Cheezit can provide their experience.

This doesn’t seem procedural for an in warranty truck (within 4,000 miles).
If it was out of warranty and torn apart where the customer didn’t have the money, then I can see it sitting untouched but sounds like this dealer needs a wakeup call.

Unfortunately, if they’ve already denied warranty coverage, there’s no way to cherry-coat the battle you’ll be joining.
If you have the detailed maintenance records, call a meeting.

I would also check with your automobile insurance carrier under the comprehensive provisions to see if this repair would be covered in a worst case scenario. It would cost you your deductible in the event that Ford denies your claim. Another 6.7 member lost a fuel system due to water contamination and his insurance carrier paid the bill after being denied warranty repair by Ford.

Nipperdog 12-27-2011 06:45 PM

well if that situation ever happens here, I will be present at the teardown with a digital camera and take some pictures of the metal surfaces immediately upon dissassembly. How can they argue with that.

Has anyone figured out the build date on this truck yet?

How does a new motor cost 20k. Nemotcars said his was gonna cost 13k new originally that seems like a pretty big price difference.

We need more details anyways.
Maybe randito will start a new topic with more of his experience.
New? Used? Maintenance?
May of 2010 was when mine was built and purchased so used trucks were probably few and far between around that time.

If a motor gets hydrolocked a little rust is not what i would use to confirm this diagnosis. The first thing i would look at is the air filter for signs that it was water logged (are the 6.7s using the donaldson filter? Not sure how these react) and for water spots in the airbox itself. Next I would pull the lower intercooler tube-a hydrolocked motor the intercooler will be full of water to the point of making a mess. A little water and oil can be considered normal. I have never seen a hydrolock motor crack a valve to cause the engine failure-bent rods are almost always the result.

These are the two filters the 6.7L uses.
Maybe this will help answer your question.
I'm not sure who makes them for Ford, though.

Main filter
Ford 6.7 Liter Turbo Diesel Motorcraft FA-1902 MAIN Air Filter(FA1902): F-Series Trucks - Diesel Filters,Additives, brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks

Pre filter
[FA-1909] - Motorcraft FA1907 - Ford 6.7 Liter Turbo Diesel PRE Air Filter: F-Series Trucks-UPDATED FOR SNOW PLOWING - Diesel Filters,Additives, brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks

And an example of possible snow (water) ingestion although Crazy's truck was fine.

That style filter will stay wet for some time after. If its been three weeks already it may have dryed out but they usually still look a little rough.

urzu007 12-28-2011 02:00 AM

What does updated for Snow Plowing mean? If I run in the deep winter snow or plow should I have a different filter than the one that came in the truck? If this is the case Ford should let people know or not give people lip if we have water problems.

I had not seen the updated pre-filter until last night when I opened the URL.
Part # 1907 was discontinued. It's a low restriction filter.

Wow, thanks for all the help guys. I'll post a new thread and see what happens. Thanks .
