Those modded semi trucks are bad ass. That one where it gets the wheel off the ground in 2nd gear was crazy power.

my dad has taught me well. between the two of us we have owned 5 300s. we each have one parked in the drive way. that was the engine that made me fall in love with fords. my dad had a 69 f150 with the straight six. and some of my best memories are in that truck. so don't knock the I6. plus i get 26 mpg in a truck. who's going to argue with that? and my flowmaster makes it sound pretty bad ass.

I'll argue with you. There isn't a snow ball's chance in Hell you are getting 26 mpg with a 300 I6. Not unless you are geared 1.00 and going downhill with a strong wind blowing.

i promise. on the high way it's between 24-26. in town its 20.

Is this the same 300 in the lifted truck with 31''s?

highboy87 01-27-2009 04:54 PM

it doesn't have the 31's on it right now because they are a little wide for my taste to drive in the snow. i has 265/75's on it. but with the bigger tires it still gets 21

There is nothing in me that believes you are lying, but if what you are saying is true you have the only 300 in exsistance to consistantly get 21+ mpg. There is something wrong with your 300. When you find out what it is, let me know. We'll patent the secret and make money off of it.

highboy87 01-27-2009 05:21 PM

i've got no idea why, but i have a 16 gallon tank and i consistantly get 380 to 400 miles per tank. and i'm not lacking any power. i've thought it was strange too, my dad has an 85 300cid with the carter carb, and he only gets 18-20. but who knows... i'm definately not complaining.

I wouldn't complain either! I wish I got 26 mpg. That would make the 300 a darn-near perfect engine if it got that kind of mileage consistantly.

highboy87 01-27-2009 05:29 PM

it already is the perfect engine.. as far as six cylinders go. i'd take the engine in my 88 over the 4.0 that was in my ranger any day... but maybe thats because if i have to do anything to it i don't have to take it to the dealership...

6CylBill 01-27-2009 05:45 PM

-nod-I'm just a fan of I6 motors. I just think they are neat. I wouldn't call the 300 perfect. It's a good workhorse however. I wouldn't want to replace it with any other I6 other than something built, or a 5.9C.

highboy87 01-27-2009 05:57 PM

well mine has a crate engine with about 60k on it. the guy i bought it from said it had a knock it it... he replaced the tranny about 20k ago. i wish he would have put a 5 speed in it instead of that 4. plus he had the exhaust installed. and i only paid 300 bucks for it. it had a bad rotor and needed to timing replaced. so it cost me a whole 54 dollars to fix it. it's what i might call the deal of a life time.

I'll get the water hose ready.

yep, fresh b.s., I believe.

I read an article about a mechanic who can get 100mpg, and like 60mpg out of a hummer. He drops in a diesel, and injects hydrogin with the bio fuel. Maybe the guy getting 26mpg out of his 300 has the same set up.

Anyway, it's a good story....
