SCFlareside thanks for the info on the bed but the bed rebuild is far off at this time.
Because it will be a work truck of sorts I don't want to get too crazy on fancy wood but I am sure I will buy the needed panels because by the time I get to the bed I will be sick of metal work ;)
I also don't have any of the middle cross beams, it had 2x2 square metal tubing to hold the warped planks in place. I did not find anything holding the bed in place. Think the planks wedged in there kind of held the bed?

I have looked over the kits of blocks that I will get, all cross beams, front panel and 2+ strips as I don't have any of them also.
Wood I am thinking 2 sheets of plywood like I have seen posted, 1 for the sides and the other for the center with the strips between the 3 parts.
Again the bed is far off, got to get the cab fixed, back on the frame & moving/driving.

Go with the "Marine Grade" plywood, and yes get 2 sheets.
with the extra sections make the wood blocks for proper mounting of the bed.
that is what I did.....

Now that my bout with sinus infection is under control I spent time working on the truck.
Because it was warm and not raining I wire brushed the frame, blew it off and used a spray bottle of Oxy-Gone to kill the rust before I paint it.

Got the left side rocker, rear door post and cab corner welded up and welds ground down. I also started drilling out the spot welds on the right side so I can replace the rocker, rear door post and floor.

As you will see there is still a large hole on the left side and it is also missing the lip the door weather strip fits on to. The same will need to be done on the right side so when I have the metal brake out I will do both sides at the same time.

Depending on the weather I want to get paint on the frame that is if the Oxy-Gone is dry. It started raining so I had to cover the frame.

After painting or if no painting I hope to have the right side panels fitted and if so then will treat the rust with Oxy-Gone and let it dry.
So unless I don’t have work one day next week I won’t get back to the panel welding till next weekend.

Temperature wise today was a good day for frame painting but the wind was too much. As soon as the paint came out of the gun it would have been blown away.

So next best thing was to do rust panel replacement on the right side. Finish drilling out spot welds for the rocker and cab corner. Got the rocker out and fitted back in along with the rear door post so I could make some patches to tie the rear cab cross brace into the rocker. Below is the before /after of the patches.

http://cars.grantskingdom1.com/var/r...110_163207.jpg

Oncethe rocker was clamped in place I started working on fitting the cab corner when it all went in the crapper! I was trimming the cab corner and was about half way thru when I realized I was cutting it to short! I finished cutting it and hoped I might be able to butt weld it. Nope it is about an inch too short, don’tknow WTH I was thinking when I marked the panel?
http://cars.grantskingdom1.com/var/r...110_172106.jpg

At that point I put my anger to drilling out the floor spot welds and then calledit quits before I did something I could not fix for $20 to replace.
The replacement corner along with I think the door seal lip for both sides so I don’thave to make them have been ordered. Hope I don’t mess up trimming the floor when the time comes.

After the mess up last weekend and the ordered parts not here yet and the weather is to be some what nice so I can paint the frame I did some prep today.

A few weeks ago I cleaned it, wire brushed and hit it with Oxy-Gone. It's an acid to kill rust turns it black but it also left some white chalky stuff.
So a little help from mother nature (rain) a scrub brush and a pump sprayer with water and cleaned the white stuff off and sprayed it down.
If warm and not raining I will use air to blow dry it and spray gun to get paint on it.

I also have to clean the rear housing so I can paint it and pull the front suspension from parts truck prep & paint it. Be nice to roll the frame and not drag it to move.

Pictures when I have it painted

Glad you are making progress again. Was afraid to comment about last weekend's issues. :-down

FuzzFace2 01-15-2016 10:39 PM

It was because I was tired, I get up at 3am for work and don't get home till after 5pm or later and it adds up.

I was hopping the replacement corner would be here this weekend so I can get that side fitted and welded in. On the bright side I have more metal to use for patching other holes!

Yes I am the pictures from 1/9/16 is the left side welded in but still need to do what they call inner floor to the rear where that big hole still is.

On each side it is the rockers, rear door post, cab corners, front floors and making the patch for that rear part.
Last weekend I had a set back as I cut the cab corner patch too short making it useless. The new part is on order and thought it would be here.

No a member on here told me of Tabco
https://tabcoparts.com/ and after look at LMC, Sherman body supply, Mill Auto and a few others I went with Tabco. The panels fit pretty good too.

I ordered just before xmas they called me to see if I wanted the inner floors as the front floors covered half of the inner panel and could save $100 and they would throw in a piece of flat sheet metal I could use for the rest of the inner floor.
I did get them just before the holidays so was able to do some work on it then. Every thing was great till I trimmed the 2nd cab corner too short.

A week ago I ordered the cab corner again and what I hope are the door opening lip for the weather strip rubber as that is not part of the rocker like you can get thru others. You can make it as it using a 90* piece but at this point I don't want to make it. After the first order coming so fast I would think they would be here so I sent an email Friday night to see where they are.

Being mid Jan and the weather was above 50*f here it was frame painting time.
So I could get under the frame for painting I bought horses and got the frame on them.
Used air to blow off any water from the rain the night before mixed the paint with hardner to help it dry faster and hope to last longer. I go 2 heavy coats on the frame it's not a show job but it makes it look clean & newish and that is all I want.
Before paint, the white stuff is the Oxy-Gone for killing rust.

The paint oil base and hardner I got from TSC mostly used on farm equipment so good enough for the frame.

Because I need room to start pulling the parts truck apart starting with the suspension I wanted to get the motor off the engine hoist and on 1 of the stands I have. Pulled the bell nasty dirty housing off and thought good time to start degreasing but my parts washer was not setup/working yet.
When I got it for free it had no pump and could not find one that did not cost the price of a new washer. I found a $20 fountain pump at HF put a fuel line hose on it filled the tank 50/50 with 5gal Zep Industrial Purple & water and went to town on the bell housing. Came out pretty good just need to rinse with water and paint.

After a run to the hardware store for motor stand bolts, could not find the ones I had, I got the motor mounted and started to scrape the heavy dirt & grease off it.

I will be hitting it with a wire brush to get more dirt & grease off before I use oven cleaner & degreaser on it before painting.

Wow don't update in 1 week and get pushed to page 4!
No work yesterday because of weather, ice storm and boss did not want to play bumper trucks so I did some work on the truck(s).

I am still waiting on the replacement cab corner, think it was shipped yesterday from the email I got, I started pulling apart the parts truck. I am going to use the nose & front suspension on the FS as 1 fender on the FS has rot and needs kingpins BAD!

Before I pulled the nose off I knocked the dent out the best I could from the roll over. Still have to hammer & dolly it more for my liking. Ever try and pull a nose by your self? Got to say it is fun but got it off and out side using the engine hoist & ratchet strap. I then had room to pull the suspension and rest of the truck apart.
http://cars.grantskingdom1.com/var/r...122_145259.jpg

In pulling the front suspension I found the bolts for the TTB pivots lose in the bushings. Yes the metal sleeve is in each bushing. I will check the old FS ones to see if they are the same when the weather is better but don't remember them like that.

How hard is it to replace the bushings when the beams/spindles/strut rods are all together and have no press? the bushings look good just the bolts flop around too much for my liking is all.

As I was pulling the suspension I was also scraping the dirt & old grease off. It needs more cleaning before I can paint any of it but hope to get paint on them and other parts this weekend if warm enough in my no heat garage.
