Mines a 99.5 built in Ky spent 122,000 miles in OK then I brought it to AR where it now has 157,000 miles no rust anywhere ,a bunch of red dirt everywhere underneath.

Cleveland Ohio here. LOTS of rust. You guys without rust don't realize how lucky you are.
Around here, most don't even bother trying to break old fasteners, we just trorch them off and replace. Rust falls into my eyes when I bump the frame with my arm. Brake lines rust out, fuel tanks, radiator core supports, leaf spring shackles all rust out. I have rust around the wheel wells, cab corners, bottom of tailgate on my 1990, 1997, and 1996. You can wash it off, it's still going to rust. I hate salt. . |

This is the only rust on my entire truck. There is a little tiny bit on the other side at the same place. When I say no rust I mean no rust anywhere. Frame, axles, driveshaft, NOWHERE! This is clearly the Kentucky plants fault. If I were to guess some clod put a sweaty hand print there just before it went into the paint booth. I really don't know. But I don't care how many years have gone by. The way I have taken care of this truck I feel Ford is liable for chit work like this.

Wow mark. Is that on the roof above your drivers door?

Wow Mark, I have never seen that before. Thats not even a place for moisture to sit. . . that is no doubt a factory flaw. Document that as much as you can mark. . . but that needs to be addressed immediately. If nothing else. . . clean the paint off and use a rolak pad and get the metal to shine. then for now just spray some rustoleom primer or something on there to keep it from getting through the metal. That Looks deep to me.

I agree with Tim you need to do something with that quick ,if you let that go and end up with holes up there your really gonna have a mess.

I've got two F-350 Super Duties in the body shop for rust right now. Both plow trucks, but not salting trucks. Kept indoors in heating and air conditioning, washed once a week and after every snow storm.
00' the whole bottom of the doors are rusted as well as a major bubble under the pax side window on the extended cab. 156,xxx miles, made in KY. Working since new in WI. Minor rust on the frames, that just gets "blacked out" once or twice a year to keep it looking new. 03' behind the dually fender on the pax side, tailgate around the handle, and the front bumper is starting to get small rust spots on it. 92,xxx miles, made in KY. Working since new in WI. Minor rust on the frames, that just gets "blacked out" once or twice a year to keep it looking new. |
The 02 was born in Louisville. Rust bubbles above both rear fender wells. also, both bumpers are covered with rust.
97 was born in mexico. Some dents since it's a work truck, but as for rust, it's only on the utility bed, which is a reading. It came from ohio. |
2002, from canada. 186,000 miles. Rarely washed, never waxed. Mostly gets a hosing to get the mud off. Mostly highway miles, driven on the highway alot in the winter during the salt season, beaten offroad, all year, with tirechains if necesary. About a year ago I put pictures on here of the crossmembers of my bed, not holding anything anymore, and had to replace them. 7 months ago, it started getting rust spots in the fender lip, of the bed. Underside of the cab body is starting to not look so good. Outside of cab is good, other then the whoops dings. Bed has been replaced with a tool body.
