I washed my truck today... I had to use a scotch brite sponge since there was so much tree sap on it from sitting for four years. Guess I'll have to change my trucks name now... Dirty dirty just won't work anymore... :(

Pulled the transmission and Tcase from my 95 today. Also pulled the motor out of my friends f250 (getting a new oil pan and rear main seal.)

I'm trying to talk him into a set of GT40's since he's already got the motor out, but I think he might be pushing his funding limits with everything else he's doing to this truck.

He's also getting a 140amp alternator, and new water pump while everything is out. Any more suggestions?

replace the thermostat while your there... maybe even the timing chain. hows the motor run? blow any smoke?? replace valve seals if needed...

skyfox10 10-05-2010 10:27 PM

She runs a bit rough, and seems underpowered, but no smoke.

Both good ideas. I just realized I should maybe add Oil Pump to the list.

Oh, and I lost my brakes on the way home. It's too dark to look, but I'd bet money that it's a kink in one of my stainless brake lines.

So I bought some gloss black rattle can the other day to paint over the bedskirt and see if I liked it more than the semi flat. But of course it started raining almost immediately, so I'm just waiting for some dry weather. All I need is one full day! Sheesh!

Don't forget to tell him to through a new Melling oil pump in there, just great insurance and it will extend the bottom end life.:-X22

Put new front shocks on -- Rancho RS5000. Advance Auto was having a 40% off sale, so they were a bargain. Took it for a short drive and it seems to ride better. Bit by bit I am rebuilding the front end, trying to eliminate slop in the handling and lousy ride.

TexasGuy001 10-06-2010 05:08 AM

You should take the Rancho RS5000 shocks back and exchange them for either their RSX series or Monroe Gas Magnum yellow shocks. The 5000s only act as a damper and are not gas charged. These others as well as the factory shocks are. I have the RSX and like them.

skyfox10 10-06-2010 06:42 AM

I think all shocks act as a damper. I thought gas charged shocks just resisted foaming more than non charged shocks.

truckerboy 10-06-2010 10:54 AM

X2 on that. I think that they are all dampers (hence Shock Absorbers).

hammerhead90 10-06-2010 06:22 PM

Went to Pull-a-Part and got an intake off a I-6 for $10.
Also put in some superwhite headlamp bulbs, they are AWESOME

Question: Are the intakes for the I-6 and 460 the exact same?

TexasGuy001 10-06-2010 06:53 PM

They all dampen movement, but the gas charged ones push out the 5000s do not. With gas charged shocks, you cut the little nylon strap or twist them when installing and they extend on their own.

Of course they're all dampers. You and Skyfox are totally right. If shocks aren't dampers, what the heck are they? The coil springs are the big difference. Those Ranchos should be just fine.

Well, a couple weeks ago, I replaced the distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires.

Hopefully this weekend I'll get time to finally get my wiper motor changed out, and the thermostat. I've got both parts, but not enough time to replace it.

Hopefully this'll fix the temp guage moving off C and when full temp is only at the starting line near the C. I want my temp guage to stick in the middle of "Normal". That's all I ask!

Got the 87 back on the ground. Topped off the tranny fluid, Oil, filter, plugs, pcv valveair filter and breather changed and 6 plug wires. %*&#* 2 wires were too short went back and double checked. Also coil wire had wrong boot on it. 20+ mile trip I didn't plan on making tonight.
