Yesterday I replaced my heater core. My truck has factory a/c so it was an easy job. It's nice to have heat again!

Today I took the truck to a glass shop and got a new windshield installed.

Starting on the cab. It has a couple of spots to fix and i need to buy a replacement hood or find a good one in the JY. Someone walked across it and it has some hail damage.

Howd you remove the upper chrome trim on your truck Greyf100? My parts trucks got it and I want to remove it before gettin rid of it, I want to use it on mine. I got my 3 leaf front springs in, but she still sags to the left :(

Yesterday, I installed a rack on my truck, hoping that it would help keep the bed together until summer when I can replace it. It sturdied up the bed a lot.

Today, I am gonna install HID lights on it :)

Got me a shorter rear drive shaft yesterday for converting my 2wd to 4wd hopefully it is the right size... the new one is 17 inches shorter, but the new tranny is 15 inches longer, I guess I'll see...

Holy Cheese! 4 hours and I have the ball joints on only one side replaced. Why do they have to be pressed in?

ctubutis 02-06-2011 03:00 PM

Ball joints, TTB bushings & seals and such is a project on which I'm planning on dedicating
about two months worth of weekends.

nolan62 02-06-2011 03:18 PM

My best bit of wisdom is air tools and rent the ball joint press. If you are doing it alone plan on two days, one per side. Also, I used a gear puller on the bottom it really helped getting the spindle off.

Rogue_Wulff 02-06-2011 04:07 PM

Easy way to seperate the ball joint tapered stud from the spindle: Loosen nut leaving it on 2-3 turns, use hammer to strike the side of the spindle next to where the ball joint stud goes thru. This loosens the stud without damaging threads or dust boot (when used). Never hit the stud or nut, especially if planning to reuse either item.

I drove my truck up to where my son and daughter work, in order to retrieve the passenger side door glass out of the bottom of the door on the bosses 04 Lincoln LS. The plastic pieces that hold the window to the lift mechanisms broke, sending the glass to the bottom of the door. I couldn't believe how crappy the power window system really is on such a high end car. Since it's a sunday, and I hear there's some kind of ball game today, there was no chance of getting the needed replacement parts, so I used good old fashioned baling wire (coat hanger, actually) to hold the window in the fully raised position. Might have a minor wind whistle, but should be much more weather resistant than it was. Kinda important, since the forecast is calling for 5-10" of additional "Global warming" to fall in the next few days.......

ebodell 02-06-2011 04:13 PM

The weather is not the greatest so I pulled the visors off and brought them in the house for a good cleaning. The driver's side still had part of the OD trans decal on it so I carefully removed it (may try and clean it up and re-attach it) and cleaned 25 yrs worth of grime off.
I also sent off for some headliner material samples today from a site I found on-line. The headliner is held up by some stick pins the PO installed to keep it from falling down. The board itself seems to be in ok shape so I think I am going to try and recover it.

on both ends there is a 10mm or 3/8ths nut, after you remove those the rest of the clips are just plastic. Carefully put a thicker putty knife or very wide bladed screw driver behind the molding (next to the clikp) and pry towards you. If you use a narrow bladed screw driver it will put too much pressure in a small area and possibly tweak the molding.

Thanks Greyf100. Ill start on that this week then. I attempted a new ignition lock and broke the new one so I had to drill a hole in the broken piece and managed to pull it out of my column and reinstalled my crappy old one. Dam imported junk parts.
