Yes, they are rare.

Especially one in as good a condition as his.

I am very lucky in that department. My truck has no rust on the any of the areas ford trucks are prone to get it on the outside.HOWEVER,I have a nice quarter size hole next to me headlight dimmer switch,a nice hole the size of a soccer ball in my driver's side floor board, and the little strip of metal that the weatherstrip seats onto under the door sill plate has rusted. And my front bed panel has decided to rust at the spot welds and at the bottom.Other than those areas,my truck is spotless.Your luckier though, since you live in Michigan.I'm in inland Florida, and the only thing that will ruin a vehicle down here is saltwater, and i'm 60-70 miles from the beach both ways.

Came by an OLD hilltop junkyard today. Looks like the price of scrap has finally made it to the country..They were dragging them out of the hills..Saw 4 57 Chevs..57 Ford..Several T-Birds..Buick Conv...61 Lincoln...and bringing up the rear ...a blue/silver...84 EXPLORER F-150...Has the name on the bed sides...

xjpilot 09-18-2008 09:22 PM

I'd vote in the poll, but It doesn't give me the option to. It looks like I've got the only '82 F-150 Explorer on here, that makes me feel pretty special. My Grandfather bought it new and gave it to me a few years ago. Its torn down to the frame right now in the process of a frame up. Its staying all factory too, even that kick ass baby blue and the 3 blue stripes

This is a good looking truck! I noticed it doesn't have AC vents. I thought that the vents were still there even if it didn't have AC. Also, I wouldn't think that a Lariat would come with out AC.

Thanks!!

Yeah, i wouldn't think that a Lariat would come without AC either, though i probably wouldn't use it that much if it did.

Here's a pic of mine....

The holes are there for it behind the dash panel, but there aren't any ducts or anything like that.73-96 Ford trucks didn't really need a/c IMO,because if you open the vent windows and the door windows, and if you have a sliding rear window, that's enough air.Plus it doesn't cost ya gas and doesn't crowd up your engine bay!!!

I wouldn't use it, the sliding rear window is great, and so are the vent windows.

Air Conditioning was an optional extra on every model, except the Explorer Package "D".

However, it is unusual to see a XLT Lariat without this option. :)

All models have the place to put the air-conditioning vents, because of dealer installed add-on air conditioning options.

I have an '85 F-150 Explorer regular cab, original vinyl seats and floor, 300 six with c-4 automatic........ wish I got better mileage though 10 to 12 mpg highway......carb leaks, stripped out threads on the carb......gonna fet a rebuilt soon as my bank account will allow it.

F100_82 11-22-2008 10:39 PM

I have a 82 F100 Explorer edition. It has a V6 and the truck has 21000 actual miles on it. The truck was given to me from my brother. I am in the middle of changing all the fluids, brakes, shocks and anything that has not been touched in all the years. The bad is I need to repair the driver door and need a driver bed side.

Gary Lewis 03-01-2011 09:06 AM

F100_82 - Looks like we are in the minority with '82 Explorers.

All - I'm looking for info on what the colors were in the tape stripes on the '82 Explorer. Understand that they varied from year to year, but would really like to know about '82 since I'm hoping to have the stripes reproduced for mine.

bashby 03-01-2011 09:14 AM

WOW, thats an old thread!

For sure.

BTW, I have an 80 with the original hood ornament and tailgate badge, but the stripes are not original since the truck got a cheapo (maaco?) paint job sometime before I bought it.

Perhaps it's time to run a newer poll.....

85_Blue 03-01-2011 05:37 PM

Yep, check out my Blue. I have pics of her in garage.

She is a 1985 F150 Explorer XLT Lariat. With tilt steering, cruise, & bed rails plus all the other bells & whistles.

She has a 302 EFI matched to a C6, but only 2WD.

82 F150 03-02-2011 12:19 PM

I know a guy that has an 83' F350 explorer regular wheel base dually and a herrin wrecker bed. All red black and white rubber strip tilt cruse with black bezels o yea and it has a 6.9 desel with 4 speed. The guy uses it for farm stuff.

ehughes8 08-30-2012 02:58 PM

poll seems to be closed. But, I have a white 82 f100 explorer with dark blue on the bottom, around the windows, and multi-blue explorer stripes. 3.8V6, 3spd w/overdrive, 8ft bed, black dash trim, A/C, and color coded floormat. just crossed over 50,000 original miles last week.

81-F-150-Explorer 08-30-2012 05:14 PM

Yeah this poll is closed, but I'll make a new one really quick...

Ok the new poll can be seen here...

Without pictures I cannot believe it. }> Actually, I really want to see pictures as I had an 82 F150 Explorer and it was well worn. So, I really would like to see one with only 50K miles. :-X22

luthoro 08-30-2012 07:16 PM

Mine is a Explorer+Lariat+XLT

Johnnymotz27 04-06-2014 11:49 PM

I just bought a 1981 custom f100 explorer. Looks to be the lowest level explorer package. I will be converting the truck to a standard custom f100 if anyone is interested in the emblems hood ornament and possibly the seat because I'd like to go with the brown vinyl that would have been in a standard f100 custom.

A 1977 F150 Explorer pkg.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...id=257754&.jpg
I had posted earlier about this truck and recently scanned this image from some old slides. I believe this was one of the prettiest Ford trucks ever built, but then I guess I'm a little opinionated. I received more compliments on this truck than I did on most of the cars I've owned ... and I had some pretty nice ones.

The 302, three speed and 3.55 gears rolling L78-15's was NOT a winning combination. At the time we had a Dodge Aspen wagon, 318 V8 with a four speed (three/OD) manual transmission. It handled my boat better than the truck did! Sold it when I got a bigger, badder company truck that I could use for personal use also.

rjhenrikson 09-21-2023 04:16 PM
