. I bought Torque Pro ($6), it autoloaded the Ford codes and a short trip later I found out I had a bad coil on cylinder 4 and one going out on 1. Gonna order the whole set of BraveX coils and swap them all out.

I wouldn't replace any of them until one fails - which might be 100k more miles, who knows. BUT, now that you have the capability to identify the one - hell just use Torque Pro to monitor it occasionally. Second dashboard screen in this post https://www.f150forum.com/f4/torque-...0/#post6263286

Wait, my van has phasers? What about photon torpedoes?

Seriously, appreciate the input on Torque Pro.

Ironically, I was talking to my brother in law about the coils while replacing the belt on the van (it's been a long week) and he did what I am planning on doing. He has a Mercury Montego, and doing the back 3 coils and plugs on that car are a pain because of the sideways engine. So he ordered a whole new set of Motorcraft coils and plugs and replaced them all at the same time. (he had one bad rear coil) That was last year. Since then, he's had to replace two of the new coils with the old coils that were still good. So apparently Motorcraft aftermarket aren't as good as factory stuff. And maybe I should just replace the faulty coils, but since I'm changing all of the plugs anyway, it's the same amount of work and there's pros and cons to both.

I still haven't had time to tear into the coils on the van, just got done getting my Eclipse back on the road and had to drive the van.

I can certainly dig the same amount of work (at my ripe ole age of 74) as long as the UN-SAME amount of money don't matter. LOL

I would very seriously question if these alleged failures of MC coils weren't counterfeits. They'll come in identical packaging and will claim whatever COO OEM would be even though they're MIC

And a van wouldn't have phasers actually, apparently the vans never got the 3Vs

THIS. Thanks a ton, I'd never heard of a Mode 06 diagnostic. I had just bought a bluetooth OBDII scanner and had Torque Lite, but it wasn't showing any codes, just a "precode" of P1131. I bought Torque Pro ($6), it autoloaded the Ford codes and a short trip later I found out I had a bad coil on cylinder 4 and one going out on 1. Did you try the bravex?
