well i got the tach figured out....darn relay is bad, i jumped it and the tach works, i think the kid that had the engine out of this truck prior to me assuming it broke the pump in the transmission, i pulled the pan off the trans and there was no crud in it and very little on the magnet so i will pull the tranny and try ot just throw a pump in it

If you want to advance the timing on your pump you would rotate it towards the passenger side of the truck. WITH THE ENGINE OFF. That's important. I ruined a pump by advancing it with the truck on. Who knew it was different than a gasser!?!?! lol, I didn't.

I wish I could help you with your automagic, but I don't do slushboxes.

As for the "smoke screw", unless U-Haul pumps are different than a standard Stanadyne DB-2 pump, then the Fuel Adjustment Screw is actually an allen bolt held in place by a nut, if you have a 93-era pump. Anything below that I believe has the internal adjustment screw, which is also an allen bolt but it's inside the housing and you have to take off the diamond shaped plate on the passenger side to access it. Either way, the fuel screw turns IN for MORE fuel, OUT for LESS fuel, unless one of the other masters of IH's on here proves me wrong.
Adjust it one "Flat" at a time, or 1/6th of a turn, which is the flat of an Allen Wrench.

There is a ton of info on this site on the fuel adjustment and timing. The best way to time it is with an actual tool, I am in the process of finding a shop around me that can actually do it, as they are scarce.

What do you mean you will just pull the tranny and throw a pump in it?

are you low on tranny fuild? it should move regardless as it is fulid driven if the tach and other items dont work as they should thats eletrocis .... shift points and etc... is all your phical linkage hooked up? it should move frward or backwards ...at least a bit

vfelix702 03-19-2011 08:22 PM

the TC should hold about 7 quarts and the rest in the tranny according to the FSM Total amount of tranny fulid is AOD 12.3quarts --C6 12.0qts ,E40D 15.7qts including TC
