I second (or third or fourth, whatever we're up to now) the Silverstars and upgrading the light wiring to a relay system. You can buy the relay headlight harness from LMC for around $30, but recommend you build the harness yourself. It's a little cheaper that way, but more importantly you can build it with much heavier wiring and components than the LMC harness. Franklin had given me a link to really good old-school Bronco site on the subject, but it doesn't look like it's still active....but Dave probably has another site in his inventory. Also, if you're planning electrical upgrades, you'll get much bettter performance with the lights if you go ahead and do the 3G alternator upgrade.

Yeah, SilverStars not Ultrastars. There is a SilverStar Ultra bulb, but the extra cost wasn't worth it to me.

I must say, my F100 will probably never see DD duty. I wouldn't be worried about whether or not the truck will make a good DD, i'd be more worried about whether or not the government bans vehicles older than 20 years from traveling on the road.:(

That is another issue that I am worried. In all reality though, I know more people driving older rigs then those with brand new rigs. Yeah, I think I will ditch the hid idea, and just run a bigger harness and the sylvanias. Anyone know the specific model I need? Also I guess brightness is helpful but I will have enough kcs wired in that I can just kick them on if I need em. It also have a bigger alternator, no idea what model but it is for dual batteries and a camping setup.

I imagine if this ever comes into play there will be a huge enough backlash to stop it. Enthusiast groups such as ourselves, car clubs, SEMA, etc won't let it happen without a fight. Look at the last stupid thing they came up with, Cash for Clunkers. Took many excellent used vehicles off the road and wasted them, BUT they couldn't kill anything over 25 years old.
The day the government says I can't drive my pickup anymore is the day they buy me a vehicle to drive. I honestly can't see myself buying a brand new vehicle anytime in the future.

You have two options for the bulb replacement. You can install straight up Silverstar sealed beam replacements. I believe the Sylvania part number is 6054ST. These are good, but a better answer is to go with a DOT approved H4 sealed beam replacement that takes an H4 bulb. That way you get better reflector and lens technology. It's more expensive, but the at least for me the difference was worth it.

I will look into that. Is there a good way to figure out how many aftermarket kc lights in combination with the regular lights I can run with my alternator and dual battery setup?

Fordzilla, you make an excellent point. Look at California and their crazy strict emissions laws. They are slowly but surely gaining more and more control over what kinda cars are on the road. And with the way things are going today, with more and more things falling under state and federal government control, it might just be a matter of time before our beloved Fords are outlawed altogether in certain states, or the entire country...

I completely agree,the Cash for Clunkers was a scam.I tried tradin' my ol' ranger in for a BIGGER truck,an '06 Silverado 4x with low miles but they wouldn't do it,b******s,I can't stand little cars.We need to keep the oldies on the road.I've got a page copied from a hotrod magazine showing the vehicles traded in:'87 Grand National,Foose and Roush prepped F-150's,Lotus and Maserati just to name a few.What's up with the american people for being this gullible and why can't the government hand out computers so people can actually find work to pay for those new s**tboxes,bills,etc.I can go on and on about this subject.Anywho,this is a great site and love the old fords!

I saw a vehicle at a junkyard recently saying they had poured sodium silicate? into the engine to destroy it's internals. Such a waste. believe it was a ford, I'll ask the person I went with if they remember.

Was a hang tag on the throttle body. Want to say it was maybe a 460 equipped ford?

Yep they ran sodium silicate which glassed the block. It was surely sad. I've heard internet stories of people taking the cars and pulling valuable stuff for the after market though.
