Replaced an idler pulley. Probably easiest job I've ever done!

Got a seat pad to act like a cover for the 90 F150 to slow down the rip in the driver's side of the seat till we can get it fixed.

We got a bunch of snow, sleet, and ice here in the last couple of weeks. Lots of 4WD action. I like my autolocks, but they don't do well going back and forth in slippery conditions pulling people out. So I took them off......

My dad wanted me to help him fix up his '04 Chevy Malibu MAXX (doing so is like charity work for the less fortunate....I keep telling him he should have bought a Ford :-banghead)
Anyways, he wanted me to buff out his headlights. The Chevy stealership he took it to recently told him that for $100 they could buff out the headlights so they would be brighter at night and help him see better. So, knowing that I could save him some $$, off to Oreille's we went. There, we bought the Meguiar's Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration Kit. Once home, I tested it on my own vehicles. Both my Subaru and F150 needed it. The Sub had fogging on the lenses and the Brick nose had damn near yellow headlights. Starting both with the 1000 grit, then 3000 grit, then polishing and sealing the lenses, I am happy with the results. The F150 has more clear, whitish light than a dim yellow light and the lenses look great. I will be doing the same process to my taillights that have the same corrosion. Overall, for $30, the headlight restoration kit does get your headlights substantially better....albeit with a bit of elbow grease. Either way, a good day spent working in the garage with Pop. |

I can save you about $25 next time.. Just buy a can of Off deep woods and find an old rag. You will get the same results with a lot less elbow grease. |
I am personally going to try toothpaste to get the yellow out. Going to try it on the explorer or envoy first. Figure it can't hurt it and a show my sister watches showed that it works.
Worth a shot since a tube of toothpaste is only $1. Trav |

I just purchased a 1986 Ford E-150 Van.
Electric windows don't work...I checked voltage to window motor and found none. I checked my owners manual, and it spoke about a window circuit breaker, but so for, I have not been able to find it. New to this site, so I ask is this where I need to ask the question, does anyone know where this circuit breaker might be, or is there another place I need to go to on this sight, to get an answer. Thx for any guidance |
Just bought a 1986 Ford Van. The electric windows don't work, Checked voltage. None coming to windows, Checked owners manual, It spoke of a circuit breaker for the windows, but was very vague about the location'

drove the truck yesterday and moved a broken chouch to the local dumpster with the truck, even got complimented on my truck too :)

Replaced hard nylon vacuum lines with rubber vacuum hose. Knew I had a vacuum leak, but couldn't find it, it's gone now. On the headlights, used 1000 grit paper and mothers metal polish, worked great.

I know it isn't an OBS, but it is in spirit and in the service it has given.
This last few days has been about giving the true work horse of the fleet some love. My wife's 2000 Expedition. It rolls every day to take us to work, get groceries, go out, vacations and it runs us back and forth to our place in the mountains 180 miles away at least once per month. We don't buy cars unless we can write a check for them so we really try to make them last. She has heated leather, 4 factory captains chairs, front and rear climate control, adjustable pedals, moon roof, powered rear side windows and Eddie Bauer trim. She was an expensive truck when my FIL bought her new at Crossroads Ford. It just rolled 160k. I did new brakes and rotors all the way around and new axle seals in the back. Recently it got all new coils, new boots, new plugs and fuel filter along with an intake manifold replacement due to a crack. Just put on new Michelin LTX M/S2 tires today (was supposed to do it Saturday but weather sucked) and took it to the local Sunwash where they wash and hand dry for $6.95 and do a really good job (so good for so cheap I rarely wash one at home any longer). Our last set went over 100K, love the Michelin Man. I am going to put a set of Bilsteins on it and a new set of headlights and call it ready for another 160K. It runs and drives perfect, we are going to keep it til it is no longer fixable. I could not ask for a more comfortable and reliable vehicle. I ended up using a rag and toothpaste. First tried it on a old headlight I have for the bricks and it cleaned it up pretty good. It isn't 100% new looking but it is better then it was before. Got part of one side on the envoy but started to rain. So far it looks like if it isn't to far gone it can be done. Need to really get this done on the 89 F250 as they are pretty bad off. Trav |
