I have just purchased a used F350 crew cab 7.3l to replace my 1997 f250 light duty with 5.4l. It has 257K, original transmission and engine. I drive about 4K a month, which really racks up the miles. That f250 is the best truck I have ever owned, still drives wonderful and runs great. Mobil 1 synthetic since break in, new filter every 5K and complete oil change every 15K. Tires, brakes, shocks, 2 alternators and 1 rear end rebuild, thats it. I hope the crew cab will treat me as well.

Yes I did tow with the little f250. We have a 35 ft Monaco trailer (about 9500lb) and a 20ft Northriver aluminum boat (4000lb). The boat is trailered every weekend to the best fishing at the time which was usually less then 1 hour away. The trailer gets pulled about 2500 miles a year. Its kind of hilly in the northwest and that trailer is waaay over what Ford recomended be pulled. Long hills required 1st and 4300rpm to maintain about 35mph once the speed droped. I sell logging equipment during the week, so the truck was on gravel roads a far amount of the time. I also have racing in my blood so my right foot tends to get heavy and I really enjoy sliding the corners. Never babied.

:D thanks that builds my confidece in this truck, dlharte.i dont know alot about the new engines, older v8's like my 390 i'm more comfortable with.but trust is earned over time, its startin prove its self.maybe i'll get a 2005, i can afford it now, but i figure with a 97 w/107000 onit its just breakin:)

I think my results are not commen. You need to know that that 5.4 is an expensive engine and Ford only offers it as a remanufactured unit for something like 4k plus. I don't trust a high valume reman facility to do a good job so I looked into the cost of having a good local race shop go through the motor just for fun. Close to $3500. Information you should have. Keep up with your maintenance and if the guy before did you should be good to go to around 200K I would think.
The company I work for buys this motor in the HD f250's for our product support poeple. They always run them over 200K before purchasing new trucks. Good maintenance is the key.

thanks again, oil changes a must do, on your f250ld is the oil filter located be hind the left front fender? it is on mine, and boy does that make it easy:) also 6 3/4qts of oil? i like the extra oil cap.

dlharte 12-31-2003 08:43 AM

Yes the filter was remote mounted in front of the left front wheel. It takes about 6 quotes, I always put in about 5 1/2, started truck and ran for about 1 minute then checked the dipstick and added more. Better then overfilling.

RedCrewCab4x4 12-31-2003 11:28 AM

I've put 22,100 miles on my early '99 PSD so far. Of course it had 88,000 miles on it when I bought it, so the total is 110,100 miles.
