Hi, actually from my understanding all 48s 49s & early 50s came with a steel bed floor, with a wood Plank subfloor which if I remember correctly was notched for the hump. The wood Im sure your talking about is to bring the new wood bed up to level, and hide where the old spot welds that held the original steel floor were on the sides of the bed.. If you check out Classic Haulers (net or free catalog) you will see the wood edging we are talking about for sale along with a bunch of wood and trim options. On mine I had to add a short piece of SS by the tailgate to cover a short gap. But I think I just didn't get the front trim piece which caused the gap??? The folks (all Girls) at Classic haulers are very helpful if you have any questions. Just about all the vendors carry bed wood but CC is where I got mine. Ax has some real good threads on bed wood types and coatings, its definitely worth looking them up. PS thank you for the kind words about my truck.

That is beautiful. The strips of oak are a great contrast.

Hello, I used 1/2" oak veneer plywood and it is fastened with countersunk head 1/4" bolts into the underlying cross braces, the solid oak strips hide the heads of the bolts. The strips closest to the wheel tubs also hide where I glued the panels together. I was able to place in there in one piece with the help of my wife.
