a couple of possibilities-- (1) the engine needs another 1500 miles of break in time. i dunno. (2) needs a taller gear ratio, eg 5.6:1. seems wrong to me. (3) some kind of simple throttle linkage problem. me: maybe. the problem seems there although less so at lower speed shift points.

any thoughts welcome. what is your max speed if i may ask, and do you rev it above 3500 RPM before shifting from 4th to 5th? maybe i don't rev high enough in 4th, dunno.

i have a 1968 f250 with a newly rebuilt 390, rv cam, edelbrock 4 barrel carb, tri-y headers, nv4500, 4:10 gears, 33" tires, 2" lift, a flatbed, and a 20' pipe rack out of 2"x2" steel. I figure with just me driving and no passenger, i might be about 500 lbs over stock weight (not great but hopefully not too bad).

the best speed i can get so far (only started experimenting) in 5th gear is about 75mph at about 2100 rpm. at this speed, i can maintain it on a flat freeway, but i cannot accelerate-- if i push the accelerator all the way, the speed remains at 75mph. the rebuilt engine has about 400 miles on it.

any ideas? i am a software engineer. i don't know anything about this stuff.

i have sent an inquiry to the rebuilders. it is still under warranty. i am still waiting for a response from them.

Hi just want to say your write up for the NV4500 swap is great and will hopefully help me a lot. I have a 79 f350 2wd with a 360FE and a np435... I just bought a nv4500 that was on a 2wd gas v8 dodge. I'll be using your write up as a guide. Just a question before I start, now that you've had the truck this long is there anything you would add to your write up that would help me lol?? Do you mind if I ask some questions?

I'm still trying to name her, though...
That is the exact same kit I used.
    So you went with 15 X 7 (front), 15 X 8 (rear) wheels.
    What about your tires?
    235/? (front)
    275/? (rear)
    Thanks, again for the info.
Did you use the shock size recommended by DJM or did you go with something else?

Hey, I noticed in a thread that you made an EGR tube out of some copper flex tube. I'm having a heck of a time getting the stocker to work with my hedman headers and was wondering if you could tell me where you found the tubing you used. Did you have to flare the ends? Etc.

I found out that the bolt pat on the back of the bell housing on both the 390 and the 302/351 are the same and the adaptor plate bolts to the back of the bell housing. So the PN was the rite one after all. Thanks for your help sir

i checked out that number and it did come up with
Dodge NV4500 to a Ford 302 / 5.0L adapter plate kit. the bell housing and stuff wouldnt be the same for the 390 and the 302 would it?

My uncle and I are building his first truck (47 for pickup) he had a 390 in it already, and we are looking to put in a Nv4500. where did you get your adaptor? I looked at advance adapters and wasn’t able to find the correct one. Thank you for your time!
