    Mark I just want to thank you again for the help with my trans. I had some other issues with codes and misfires once I got it back together but I think I got everything ironed out now.Fixed a lot of other things while I was at it.Leaky manifold,shocks,u joint sand a tune up.Hope all is well with you and the hurricane.     Hey Mark




    After searching online for days and reading almost all your post I feel confident you are an expert on the problem I have. Itís a 2001 expedition 4x4 5.4 with 4r100 and has 275k miles. Itís like most of the ones Iíve read about, it gave no warnings/signs before all forward gears went out. What Iíve found so far is one feed bolt has backed out and I found 1 spring is broken. I havenít checked all the internals of the valve bodies yet but I plan to. My question is do you think it would be a good gamble to re-torque the feed bolts and replace the springs and put it back together or would you recommend looking further into it before putting it back together? My next question is what parts do you recommend as far as brands? And kits?




    I almost forgot, it did have a code of p0720 and the O/D light flashed briefly.

    Good to know, thanks so much for confirming and for the quick reply.

    In that case, any suggestions as to what I should check on fixing the 4x4? I'm pretty comfortable working on stuff as long as I don't have to tear way down to internals and would prefer to fix myself, seller claims he was quoted $1,000 to fix the 4x4 but the tranny runs fine other than not being 4WD at the moment. For the right price, I feel like it would be worth buying as-is and getting the 4WD straight later.

    Hi Mark,

    You seem to be the expert on transmissions and I'm hoping you can help me. I am wondering if there's an easy way to tell if a 4R100 tranny is 2WD vs 4WD. The reason I ask is that I'm going to look at a 2001 F-250 Super Duty with 7.3L, but transmission was swapped. It was originally a 4x4, the truck has 185K on it but the transmission was swapped out about 20K ago and the seller told me he's not sure why, but that it's no longer 4x4. He said his friend swapped the tranny and "didn't connect something" and the 4x4 no longer works. I'm thinking he may have put a 2WD tranny in it instead of a 4WD and want to be sure I know what I'm getting into. I tried searching the forums but I've only found threads about 2WD to 4WD conversion, nothing about how to tell if it's a 2WD or 4WD transmission. Any suggestions?

    Thanks Mark vent line is all set.I am having a problem finding the rubber line that goes to the transfer case.I guess that is why I was thinking the vent line might go to the transfer case.Where does it come from? I saw the one on the front differential going up on the passenger side firewall.Sorry for the rookie questions.I have pulled a few Transmissions but they were on 2 wheel drive straight 6 f 150s they were easy.     Mark seals and bushing are replaced.Transmission is back in the truck.Ready to install transfer case.Does the rubber line from the top of the transmission go to the transfer case ? I removed it when the trans was half way down and didn't get a good mental picture. Thanks Youngblood

    Re. 2004 f150 4.6 transmission leak. Mark I inspected the bushing behind the pump seal it is scored. What is the best way of removing it with basic tools ? from the front side or removing the pump and tapping it out from the back side ? Thanks Youngblood

    I appreciate any advice you can offer.
    Vehicle: 1995 F-Superduty 7.3 auto E4OD i believe.
    Complaint: no forward motion when selector is in D

    Trans was remaned several years ago estimate maybe 40k
    What I have found, when D is selected it feels like N the truck will slightly surge and a some noise from the trans can be heard. Shift down and away you go as if nothing is wrong. It will shift up and down normally including convertor lock. Until you slow to a stop then you have to pull it into 1st or 2nd. All gears are function. Shifts are firm but not harsh OD button works as it should, and does not flash indicating an issue. Only codes I have are for a exhaust back pressure and TPS. Also verified the (new) MLPS operation via scanner. New VSS

    Power to solenoids was verified and terminals cleaned.

    What operations are asked of the trans when D is selected? Possibly a faulty solenoid? Just seems really weird that it drives and shifts fine once rolling.

    Thanks for your input on the 4R100 towing in overdrive question. Also, I went with your recommendation for a trans oil cooler setup and I'm impressed with the results. Thanks again!
