Hello, I am trying to track down a parking brake acuating lever (right hand/passenger side) for the 10in x 2.5 drum brakes in my 1990 Ford Ranger 4x4 2.9 litre. This is the lever that sits inside the drum, attaches to the parking‑brake cable, and pushes the shoe. The Ford Part Number is F47Z‑2A637‑A (Bendix 3204549-R) but has been discontinued for some time and readily available rebuild kits don't include this item. Apparently, the 91-94 Explorer had the same drum brakes as well as the Bronco II 89-90 and the Mazda B series from 94-2000. I have tried multiple outlets with no success as well as scapyards, etc. If anyone know where I might locate this part, please let me know. The truck is undergoing a rebuild and this missing piece is hold things up. The drivers side lever is in good condition- see attached photo, the passenger side which is a 'mirror' image was missing and some 'bricolage' was apparently done but didn't really work. Thanks very much for any advice.

I recently ordered a new truck and paid 500.00 deposit. I thought they offered lifetime powertrain warranty but found out yesterday they do not. A nearby dealer does but I have to cancel current order and go thru them to get it. They would likely make allowances for my 500 loss with the other dealer. The other dealer claims it is a gimmick and not worth offering. SO IS IT WORTHWHILE? I do not mind dropping the 500 though I hate giving up my build date and VIN number. It is RIDICULOUS that you can't have the order transferred to another dealer but apparently you can't do that. Any opinions appreciated!

Who are you getting to press bearings? Back in the day most part stores around here would press on bearings if you bought them there but no one is doing that anymore. I rebuilt a 9 inch and paid a local shop $110 to press both axles and pinion bearings. Is that the going rate these days?

If I had more shop room I’d break down and buy a cheap press. But I doubt I’ll need it again this year.

Hey everyone. 2016 F350 6.7. I’ve had it about a year and I’d say maybe once every week or so when I go to start the truck, the starter would spin but it engage. Just make a whirring sound like they do when the bendix doesn’t engage the flywheel.

This last week I finally got myself to replace the starter (not easy on these) with an ACDelco reman and it’s the same. Actually worse. Now it’s every couple times. If I try repeatedly it will eventually engage which makes me think it’s probably (hopefully) not flywheel damage.

What am I looking at here? A defective new starter? Is that common? My batteries seem strong but I only have a 100 amp load tester. Since it happens with the truck hot I’m doubting battery issue.

Thanks again!

Lil Bucky started life as a normal 1987 Bronco ii. Ford wanted Motor Trend to come up with a Prototype for the 1987 auto show tour. Ford gave Motor Trend the Bronco ii and Motor Trend went to work and went off the idea of what if SVO did a bronco ii. Motor Trend added a Mustang SVO hood scoop, tinted the windows to 35%, added fog lights/fog light covers, XLS ground effects front air damp and side skirts, removed rubber strips from the bumpers, painted the bumpers, removed all badging, added 15 x 7.0 in progressive wheels that were powder coated white paired with Goodyear Wrangler radial tires, antenna was removed and hole was filled in, removed rear tire rack holes were filled in, changed the grill, and hand painted it you can see some imperfections in it and see brush strokes they used Ford paint colors not sure which colors. Unfortunately Motor Trend did not change anything with the drive train or suspension. Right around this time someone at Motor Trend named it Lil Bucky. The article was in the June of 1987 Motor Trend magazine, and in September 1987 Hot Rod magazine, haven't found the article for Car Craft/ Petersen's Off Road or if there is any. Ford also gave a hot rod magazine a Aerostar van or what they called it "Aerosport", car craft a Super cab ranger mini truck style, Petersen’s 4-Wheel and Off-road a pre-runner style ranger. Car Craft, Petersen's offroad, Motor Trend, Hot Rod, were all owned by Petersen Publishing Company. It must have been some sort of deal between Ford and Petersen to build concept vehicles. All of these cars went on display at major auto shows in 1987 with Ford. After its short-lived fame Motor Trend used it as a chase car for photo shoots until the mid 90s. Once Motor Trend was done it was parked under a skyscraper in LA. Motor Trend sold it in the early 2000s to one of their editors Ron Sessions who used it for a few years as a daily driver. He moved to Michigan to do work for GM and drove Lil Bucky from California to Michigan 3000 miles. Sold it to my grandpa to make sure it would not be daily driven in Michigan where it could have rusted away. It has just over 84k miles, 4x4, Eddie Bauer interior, 5 speed manual, electronic Touch-Drive 4x4, came with a tire rack removed by Motor Trend, 3.45 gears, power windows/power locks, cruise control, rear wiper, rear defrost, AC, AM FM radio, cargo cover, center console, tilt wheel, pretty much all the options, no rust being a California truck. I started working on it because it was sitting a needed some attention, replaced gas tank and sending unit, heater core, striker bushings, rear lift gate hydraulic struts, new battery and tie down, new tail lights and cleaned it a lot, lots of polishing and waxing, new seat belt sleeves, plan on being at some shows this summer with it. Also looking for the other cars in the article, I find it unlikely they are still around. Also need a XLS front air damp for it. I have more photos of Lil Bucky in my personal album.

Greetings all.
My 2010 fx2 4.6l crew cab has an incredibly LOUD perfectly synced hammering sound coming from the transmission. After towing it into the driveway it would not start so I figured the original starter at 213,000 had blown. Replaced starter and she starts but that banging is so loud you have to turn it off. Currently the starter is back off, the cover shield (2 bolts) for the flex plate is off (it looks ok) and the 2 piece drive shafts rear bolts are removed from the diff as well as the 2 bolts holding the middle u joint support. Shaft is currently being held in place by ratchet straps. Pulling exhaust and support cross member today to get trans out. My guess (<!) is the torque converter let something go. Any ideas before I get into this monstrous procedure to check first?
MANY thanks. Daniel

Hello all — new to the forum obviously. Just picked up a ridiculously clean Ruby Red F250 Lariat with only 55k. This is my second long-term truck — my other is a 2020 TRD Pro Tundra, which I found myself absolutely maxing out hauling hardscape materials and project supplies for hobbies. I needed more truck.

First time diesel owner, but I’ve kind of come full circle on Ford. My first car I ever bought with my own money was a used Ruby Red ‘97 Mustang GT (SN95), so the color alone hit me right in the nostalgia.

The purchase story was a little ridiculous.

I found this truck listed at what I thought was a suspiciously good price (about $39,500 OTD), but there were literally no pictures online. None.

A 2015 with only 55k?? At that point I figured the listing probably wasn’t even accurate. The VIN checked out, but you know how that goes. One of the sales guys told me, “it’s a very clean truck”… which of course, that’s what you’d say 😂.

Still, I took the gamble and drove 1.5 hours, 20min north of Baltimore basically sight unseen.

When I got there, the truck was literally sitting on jacks because the Hyundai dealership wasn’t equipped with a heavy-duty lift.

Oh boy… here we go 😂

One of the mechanics, Mike, was super cool and told me he thought he could probably get it done by 6. Sales guy comes back and tells me, “it’ll probably be ready tomorrow.”

I told him, “Man, I’m not leaving here without that truck. I just drove 1.5 hours in traffic — see what you can do.” 😂

At that point I was only able to do a visual inspection, but I told them I was committed barring a clean test drive, so let’s get the paperwork started.

To make sure I got it and didn’t have to make that drive again, I reserved a U-Haul toy hauler same day and planned to use my brand-new F250 — a truck I had literally never driven — to bring the Tundra home. 😂

Of course… even that wasn’t smooth.

After finishing all the paperwork, I realized the ball hitch I had on the Tundra wasn’t rated high enough for the tongue weight, so I had to race to AutoZone about 10 minutes before they closed and grab a properly rated hitch.

Then came loading the truck.

First time loading and strapping down a vehicle by myself, and let’s just say it was a process. I was literally in a shopping center parking lot watching YouTube tie-down videos while working. Took me about an hour because I quadruple-checked every strap and connection. I probably spent about $150 on straps and tie-down gear alone.

Loading a Tundra onto those U-Haul toy hauler rails by yourself is no joke either — got up a little crooked and had to do what felt like a 598-point turn to straighten it out 😂.

Then came the drive home…

The first 20 minutes of that 1.5-hour drive I was nervous as hell. At one point my F250 hit me with a “Trailer Disconnected” warning and my heart absolutely stopped. Jumped out immediately thinking something catastrophic happened, only to realize it was a false alarm. My neighbor has a 2013 F350 and had warned me those alerts can do that, but that didn’t stop the panic.

After about 20 minutes I finally settled in… and then had another mini heart attack because I literally forgot the truck was even back there for a second and hit a rough stretch through DC toward 295 with the trailer bouncing all over those garbage roads 😂.

By the time I got up the next morning I had already spent like 85 hours researching diesel additives, CCV routing , weight loss methods, diesel ownership, and I already have an S&S DPK sitting on the shelf waiting for install.

And honestly… why ain’t nobody tell me about this damn grenade sitting in the valley 😂. All good.

Plans for the truck are pretty much OEM+ reliability and longevity:

- S&S DPK
- Better oil filtration (insane)
- Charge pipes / intake
- Possibly bypass oil filtration
- Better monitoring / gauges (Banks)
- A few tasteful OEM+ touches (nothing crazy)
- Cab lights, have up fitter switches Factory installed
- Apple Car play, thinking a Sony ax6000, but seems old already. I just want something that fits in the factory location not a huge fan of the floating displays.
- Husky Mats
- Backup and work
lights (not sure product or method yet.)

Goal is to keep it reliable, make it tow and haul better, and slowly build it into a long-term truck.

Looking forward to learning from you guys — first diesel, first real Ford truck in a long time.

oh, truck was one owner and serviced at same dealership its entire service. Clean car fax.

Greetings,
Wondering where I should start to look regarding the cruise control and horn stopped working. Further other controls on the steering wheel stopped working but then the temperature and fan control later came back on line. The truck is a 2005 F350 Lariat Dually. For the past year everything had been working until the other day.

The horn fuse did not appear to be burned.

There does not seem to be any other fuse for the cruise control or the horn that I can find.

I have an appointment at the shop for early June. So if you have some advice for the mech / tech to check please let me know.

I'm looking for a radiator for the 1972 F250 2WD 390 and I see Cold Case radiators mentioned. I haven't checked them yet, I find one; the overall Core and Radiator dimensions that look good!
For the existing radiator (as close as I could reasonably measure)
Core Width 26 1/4 (Cold Frame really really close, could be my measurement is a little off)
Core Height 19 1/2 (Cold Frame, Spot on)
Overall Height 26 1/2 with cap (Cold Frame spot on)
Overall Width 29 1/2 (Cold Frame spot on)
Thickness about 3 1/2 to to 3 3/4 (Close Frame 3" - no worries)
All should be good but to since up I need the mounting bolt locations.

Do you think I could get any relevant information from them for what follows.
On the existing radiator the mounting flange is about 1 1/2" (grill side)
The flange engine side for the shroud is about 3/4"
The distance between the radiator mounting bolt width is 28 1/2"
The Height between the radiator mounting bolts is 11 inches
The distance between the shroud bolt width is 27 1/2"
The Height between the shroud bolts is 15 inches

Nope, they don't have a dimensional with that information and the fellow on the chat line couldn't answer the questions, in fact it was about the same as dealing with an overseas support line, except it wasn't overseas.

Summit Racing doesn't have a dimensional drawing for their radiators posted.

Why in the world would you not do that, You pay to have them manufactured, to make them that information is required!
