Greetings all.
My 2010 fx2 4.6l crew cab has an incredibly LOUD perfectly synced hammering sound coming from the transmission. After towing it into the driveway it would not start so I figured the original starter at 213,000 had blown. Replaced starter and she starts but that banging is so loud you have to turn it off. Currently the starter is back off, the cover shield (2 bolts) for the flex plate is off (it looks ok) and the 2 piece drive shafts rear bolts are removed from the diff as well as the 2 bolts holding the middle u joint support. Shaft is currently being held in place by ratchet straps. Pulling exhaust and support cross member today to get trans out. My guess (<!) is the torque converter let something go. Any ideas before I get into this monstrous procedure to check first?
MANY thanks. Daniel

2009 F150 5.4L 3V lariat. When the truck is stopped, the brake pedal is pressed down and the truck is in drive, the engine has a rough idle. It vibrates the whole truck.

When the truck is in park or neutral, the idle is smooth and what I would consider normal. Also while driving, the truck does not vibrate.

It does not feel like a misfire just a constant vibration when the brake is pressed and the truck is in gear.

The tach does not fluctuate either. Sits at around 500 RPM and the check engine light is not on.

I have cleaned the MAF and the throttle body with CRC cleaner and replaced the air filter. Before I cleaned the maf and throttle body, I could see the tach fluctuating slightly.

Tonight while at a stop light, I tried pumping the brake pedal while in gear and the idle seems to smooth out when I’m pumping the brake pedal. But once I stop and hold the pedal down normally, the idle goes back to rough and vibrates the truck.

the engine does not make the classic “diesel” sound that indicates the phasers, guides and chain need to be replaced.

Could this be a developing vacuum leak or possible VCT issue?

Is there anywhere I should look/test for a potential vacuum leak?

the passanger side window works sometimes and not others.
What would cause the switches to work fine in the on position but not in the run position?
I have tried resetting them, as everyone says hold the button, that doenst do a thing here.

P0533 Refrigerant pressure sensor - High

The MAF has been replaced with no change
The A/C pressure sensor has been replaced with no change
P0453 comes up as the fuel tank pressure sensor reading high, but there is no pressure in the tank

long story short - my wiring harness back by the fuel tank near the pump got chewed in half by my dog. Every wire all the way through. I repaired the damage, but these all appeared after a got it to start. No codes previously. Runs great but the cooling fan is always on, no A/C.

My first thought is that the PCM was damaged as there had to have been shorts where the wires were chewed through. Thoughts? Can I replace the PCM with a used one myself, or does it need to be coded to the truck?

Thanks for any input!

Brian at FordTechMakuloco recommends changing out the cooling lines before they fail. I'm right about 90K miles on my '09.
I'm wondering if this is more of an issue where freezing and road salt are contributing or not. I live in S California far from the ocean. It's typically dry, no freezing and the truck is always garaged.
I saw some comments that the issue could be arising due to dissimilar metals in contact (aluminum and steel).
So, do I change out the lines preemptively? Also, what approach should be taken for future replacement (miles, years in service)?

I want to add some tie-downs, but I can't tell what's what behind the plastic. My son has a 2002, and no bed-liner. If they are the same, I can take measurements and make some informed decisions about where to mount some tie downs.
160k miles, maintenance history unknown. I just bought the truck a couple months ago.
Ticking noise from front end of truck. Sounds kinda like a mud flap or fender liner hitting tire but that's not happening.
CV boots are intact and no sign of grease escaping.
Coming over highway 17 from Santa Cruz to San Jose a few days ago I could hear what sounded like an intermittent screech bouncing off the median divider while going through curves. It wasn't loud. May have been imagined. I don't know.
Other than the noises the truck drives just fine.
Any ideas?

Last December I had the water pump and thermostat replaced in my 2013 F150 with the 5.0. Then a couple weeks later had to do the upper radiator hose. Work was done by the dealer's service outlet. Now the engine fan comes on very loud usually after I shut it off to run in a store and start it back up in a very few minutes. I have driven this truck for 13 years and the fan has always had a very quiet whirring sound when it would engage. Now it is very loud and I can hear it in traffic. Shop says they can't replicate the problem and everything is fine. Now that the weather is getting warmer that fan runs a lot and it never did before this. I don't get it. Could they maybe have installed a wrong thermostat or installed it backwards? I have 200,000 miles on that Coyote and it still runs very well but this loud fan is bugging me.

It turns out that there is a short circuit protection in the BCM. I found the OBDII dongle that I use for Torque and my Android tablet and was able to connect it to my laptop to run Forscan. I looked for DTC's in the BCM and found 2, left and right lowbeam circuit short to ground. Cleared the codes, cycled the key and voila!, let there be light!
It wasn't quite that fast, but pretty close. I still needed new headlight bulb connectors and the switch should probably still be replaced, but all's well. Now to get rid of the goofy backup camera the PO installed.

Hi, I'm Andy and I just recently purchased a 2014 F-150 XL w/5.0l Coyote... and that's about it , other than DRL's (on the Monroney). It's got no power options whatsoever.
The only thing that might be relevant is that the truck has aftermarket emergency lights in the heads and tails. I'm pretty sure this setup has been in the truck for the last 12 years. I'm the 3rd owner. The first was the state electrical grid.
I'm chasing a no headlight issue. The previous owner had cut off the hi/low wires at the headlights and spliced in a generic toggle switch and floor dimmer. No grommets, the wires were run outside the door through the cowl and they were all the same color. At least the fuse was in the correct spot. So you can imagine how bad I want to change this.
The headlight switch was only used for running lights.

What I've done:
Removed the toggle and dimmer, and reconnected the headlight wires (I actually have new pigtails on the way). I also found the wrong headlight switch installed and the grey wire on the connector was cut (IIRC anyway, it's the wire in P1). The switch also had fog and auto positions, which my truck doesn't support. The stock switch (off, parking, headlight positions) was included, but didn't work. I took it apart and found the trace was burnt between the connector and one of the pads. P2 IIRC. I fixed that with a short piece of wire. I also fixed the grey wire on the connector. I have a replacement on the way as well, just in case.
The high-beam function doesn't work on the multi-function switch. Pushing it forward does nothing, like it doesn't even move, and when pulling it back, I can feel the detent where it's supposed to sit, it's like it's stuck in highbeam. Anyway, I replaced that too.
One immediate change is that I could hear something click in the BCM when I operate the headlight switch now and it no longer ding-dongs at me when it's plugged in.
However, still no headlights. The dash lights dim when the switch is operated, and I can hear a click from the BCM when the switch is put into the running light position. There is NOT another click when going to the headlight position.
The running lights seem to work as they're supposed to and the headlights do flash when using flash-to-pass on the multifunction switch, but I can't get them to turn on. I also don't see the highbeam indicator in the instrument cluster when doing any of this.
I have a Vgate USB/ELM adapter for Forscan on the way, but it won't be here until the end of the week. The 3 headlight fuses in the BCM are tested good.
Does anyone know what tests I can perform to determine if the BCM is actually bad? I read somewhere else that the BCM could possible have a triggered short circuit protection that I might be able to reset it in Forscan, any truth to this? The burnt trace in the headlight switch is kind of concerning.
What I'd like to try is bypassing the multifunction and headlight switch all together and try and trigger the headlights. On the headlight switch, bridging Pin2 with ground turns on the parking lights. Is there a similar procedure I can do directly on the BCM to accomplish the same task for the headlights, or through Forscan?

Any other ideas from the collective before I fire a bigger, much more expensive parts cannon at this thing? I just want it to work like stock.
