    You could have a short to ground on the front tank fuel level circuit, rare. Most likely cause is a sunk flat inside the tank.

    Here is a diagram of the dual tank setup:



    You can use a DVM set to measure resistance then measure the fuel level sender at the switch.


    An open circuit would make the fuel level gauge read past the Full mark.

    Hi, I read your reply on 6/14 Fuel Tank Issue about how the fuel switch worked. My rear tank works and fuel gauge reads as it should but my side tank works but the gauge reads empty. You said the switch has 2 sets of contacts 1 set to change tanks and the other set is for the fuel level circuit.
    So what can cause the side tank not to show a fuel reading? Thanks for any help on this problem. 1996 f150 302 engine
