Going by your user name I'm assuming your truck is a 1950 F-3. The stock 1948 to mid year 1951 F-3 Timken has 14" rear drums that F-2 style 16" wheels won't clear. That's why Ford used the 17" wheels on F-3s. Do I understand correctly that the truck still has the stock axle, or did you mean that you already have a replacement axle?

If your F-2 wheels are marked 16x6 I assume your 17.5"x7" measurements are across lip to lip for both diameter and width. Not the right way to measure. Measure down inside along the inner rim base. Should be 16"x6".

If you don't already have one you are best to look at a rear axle swap to a 1967-1972 F-250 Dana 60. It's a bolt in swap. Plent of discussion threads about it if you do a Google search.

    A 235/85R16" is the match for a stock 7.50 x 16" tire. Stu

Hi Stu. I've purchased some F2 wheels for my F3 pickup truck. I also have the rear axle assembly. Question: The wheels say 16x6 on them but actually measure 17.5"x7". What modern day tire size should I install on these to achieve stock look? Thx!
