If it comes on while driving your glow plugs are short for this world.

well im having that problem and have no clue where abouts to start to fix it and winter is coming so i will be requiring them to be working. My wait to start light will come on when i turn ignition and click off 10 seconds later or until i crank but then will come back on randomly when im driving. What do I have to do to get them fixed up? and ps just bought the truck, a 1983 f250 with the 6.9 and only 61thousand origonal.
