I have installed an 390/ c6 combo into my 1966 f-250, and am getting ready to start/break in my new engine.
When I went to hook up the kickdown rod, it was a little too short and didn't line up, so I loosened the nut on the kickdown linkage arm on the tranny to see if it could be adjusted.
Once I did this, the bolt (or rod?) moved to the inside of the tranny about 3/16" and I felt something move inside the tranny itself. Now the travel on the kickdown arm is 4"-5" as opposed the 1-1.5" that it previousely moved, but my kickdown rod fits good!!! I seriously doubt that this is a good thing, even though my kickdown rod fits, and I have a few questions:
What just happened?
Am I able to start the motor without locking everything up?
How much travel should be in the kickdown arm?
