Hey guys, I recently inherited a 1987 Ford F150 thats been sitting for about 5 years. Things are actually going a little better than expected. A little backround, this truck has been in my family since new, and has always been serviced at ford. Its got about 90k on it.
As expected the battery was completely dead, however after charging over night, the truck fired up with relative ease. So far I have changed the oil and filter as well as the coolant.
The truck passed smog, which I didn't think it would. So it appears the next stop is the paint shop for a quickie. Question is, mechanically what else should I do since the vehicle has been sitting for 5 years. Oil and coolant are done, but what else? Its a 6 cyl 4 speed.
Surprisingly enough, I think the tires might be worth more than the truck. Looks like the tires were replaces right when the truck was stored. So they are brand new..... they should be okay then huh? Or do you think since they sat for so long they might be damaged or cracked?
As for the blinker fluid, I can't seem to find any. Everywhere seems to be sold out....

Perhaps I can change my muffler bearings in the mean time
Just check for dry rot and slits. Idk about the blinker fluid I make my own synthetic blinker fluid. Yes the muffler bearing are probably going to need replacing. Might be a good time for an O pipe exhaust.
sweet acquisition, post some pics man, pre and post paint. i would make sure a fuel pump has some fuel in there to cool it while it's running, but if it doesn't work, you will prolly have to drain it to fix it. good luck with her
