There was also Montgomery-Ward (the world's first mail order business), which was probably as big or bigger than Sears-Roebuck, at least in this part of the world.

Ahhhhhhhh. . the Sears "Wish Book"!! Memories abound.
I got my first guitar from the Sears Wish Book. Nice "Silvertone" acoustic guitar. I've still got it. (Got the darned thing when I was 8 or 9!)
Still in the original box!
Monkey-Warts!! (Montgomery Wards).
My very first set of 3/8" sockets and ratchet set came from Monkey-Warts. 1968 or 1969.
The ratchet still works like new. . . .the "PowerKraft" sockets started cracking and splitting after some hard use.
Speaking of tools, I was talking to a guy in the Sears tool department last Sunday.
He said that if you get a ratchet replaced, the quality isn't half of what you're trading.
He said that the 'old' stuff is better to rebuild, instead of replacing.
