AC Going CRAZY!

Ok I have a 2001 f150 supercrew. The AC quit cooling. I assumed it was a lack of refrigerant. So I added two cans which didn't solve the problem. The Compressor is comeing on, but shortly after it quit cooling the vent switch isn't working either. The only vents that it will blow any air hot or cold out of is the defrost. Could my AC be fine and just the switch telling it to blow cold air be out, which happens to be the same switch telling it where to blow it? Any help would be appreciated, it's been a hot one here in FL. Thanks.

you have two problems. one is a vacuum leak in the system that controls the air flow doors. all the doors that direct air to the floor, vent, or dash are controlled by vacuum cylinders. if you loose vacuum, the default is to blow out the defrost. Common place to have a leak is under the hood at fire wall or collector behind battery on passenger fender.
second problem is air conditioner cooling. i assume the clutch was not coming on. now you have added two cans of gas. does the clutch come on and run 70% of the time or better? if you rev up the motor to 1500 rpm does it keep dropping out or will the clutch stay engaged over 70% of the time. If it wont stay engaged, you problem done have enough gas, but you need a pressure gauge on the ho and low sides to prove that.
I it does stay engaged, feel the hoses in and out of compressor. Is one real cold? If hoses are cold and not transfering the cold to the cab, you might have a mixing door problem where hot and cold air are mixing and making warm air.
