I have a 97 F-150 with A/C problems. I do not think it is the compressor. You can feel the line at the evaporator and it is definatley cold and the compressor is not cycling. I believe that the temperture control valve is not working and it is not shutting off the supply from the radiator. Replaced the temperature control switch and it did not seem to make a difference. Does this sound like the problem and how hard is it to fix?
Thank for the help. Seems to be lots of very knowledgeable people on this site.
the 97 has an "air blend door"...its located behind the black plastic center cover at the floor. This door is operated by an air blend door motor. It is(at least on my old 97) white, and about the size of a pack of smokes. if your lucky, its only the motor assembly. if memory serves it was easy to get to.
The air blend door,is in essence a valve that opens and shuts according to wheather you want cool or hot air. These were notoriuos about either getting stuck,or just plain "going South".If it is indeed the blend door itself, better get ready to spend some time,as the entire center ducting assembly has to come out to get to it...and BTW if you need to get into it that far,its a safe bet to replace the heater core whilst there...you aint gonna want to do it again.
BTW...since I traded the ole 97 in on an 07,Ive been booted to the newer section of the forums....regardless...welcome to our world!
