I have a 97 F250 LD, automatic, 4x4 w/4.6lt V8. I left it unused for about 2 weeks & when I went to use it. It only clicked & did not spin over the engine. I thought the battery maybe low, but did a load tst on it & it was fine. I made sure all the connections were clean & tight & it still only clicked & did not spin the motor.
I had my kid turn the key & I gave the starter motor a whack & it started & started every time after as I needed it..
Now a week later & I have not used it, & needed to whack the sarter again to get it to turn over. Can the starter be fixed, or should I be shopping for a replacement?
Thanks
Bob
Replace with a lifetime warrenty one from the local parts store. Yes, it may go out again, but at least you won't have to pay for the starter.
Locally rebuilt ones (in my experience) tend to last a couple years and then go out again.
