HELP spectacular hub bearing failure in middle of nowhere
11 Miles from Snowville Utah (Idaho?) I heard a squeal, then another, then the truck jerked off the road to the right, I had slowed down since it was acting weird so I didn't flip. Hub bearing assembly failed and took out rotor and caliper with it. Limped it with the wheel darn near hanging off to Snowville truck stop. Waited 7 hours, Towed 120 miles to Salt Lake, the shop was going to charge me 1500 for the parts (CARQUEST) or 2g's from Ford,(told me they were much better and it might be unsafe with carquest, well, then why do you use them? f^&^ing people), until I called NAPA (I have an account) and found out the hub, rotor and caliper were going to be 651.00. Went with CARQUEST parts, since the shop doesn't "do" NAPA, parts-617, labor and all=900. Fortunately I had a 125 mile tow on my insurance policy since Snowville has no mechanic, hotel, nothing. I'm afraid to finish my trip, was supposed to go thru OR, then to SF and down the coast and back to Dallas, It doesn't pull to the left, so I hope the left side is good.
here's my dillemma, I am travelling by myself (I'm a big boy) and I want to get to the coast and back, anybody on my way that wouldn't mind PM'ing me your contact info or a good mechanics along my route in case I have more bad luck? I'll gladly reciprocate for anyone going thru TX, long live the FTE brotherhood. I'm going to Bend OR, then to San Fran, then to Santa Barara then back across to Dallas via Amarillo.
If your going to Bend I'm on the way here in southwest Idaho, near Boise. We have a local Diesel club that has members along your way if ya run into trouble. I'll PM you my number if ya need it.

hearing stories like this make it all the easier to drop the money on the dynatrac free spin kit. better to do it when you want to than when youre least expecting it making it cost out the a$$...........
we should get clay to do a group buy on the free spin kits..........

That's a great idea, I just need to get back to work first!
Front passenger side, its still in Salt Lake, shipping it back Friday, as soon as they can get to it. I will have to redo that crappy shops work as the front axle is now leaking, it never was before.
