High Pitch Grind Noise 2-3 Upshift 4-2 Downshift
I have a 98 F-150, automatic, 58000 miles. Intermitantly when I do a hard acceleration from 2 to 3 or from 4 to 2 such as passing a vehicle on the freeway a high pitch grind noise occurs. Noise sounds like it is coming from engine compartment. Sound lasts 1-2 seconds then goes away. RPMs seem to remain the same during the noise, no loss in power. Transmission was worked on by reputable shop that serviced transmission and replaced torque converter. Shop said clutch plate, steel plate, and bands were good. Unfortunatley, problem has reoccurred. Before I take truck back to shop is there anyone who has had same problem and knows fix?
