I have a 78 bronco with a 351M and a C6 with a NP 205. My transmission is not wanting to shift between 1st and 2nd. I don't have enough $$$ for a new tranny so is it easier to rebuild the old one or swap it for another. Can I use a C6 from any model Ford or does it have to be from a Bronco with a 351M?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Greg
Got to use one that comes from a big block; 400/351M, 429, or a 460. Don't confuse that for an FE C-6 (352, 360, 390, 427, 428). I'm getting to jump into a rebuild myself. I've got three SBF 4x4 C-6 laying around in need of a rebuild. As long as it costs me less than $400, I'll be ahead.
The bellhouseing are different. Also what other problems is your C6 doing if your only problem is the shift between 1 to 2and try shifting it manualy . From a dead stop put the tranny into 1st gear at about 15 to 25 miles anhour put it into second then into 3rd at 50 or 55 miles perhour . If your tranny shifts firm into every gear then try somthing else. Some people will tell you not to do it and when I heard about doing this I though you must be nuts but It worked on my dads '78 C6 . What you have to do is run down the read in reverse at about 25 to 35 miles perhour then slam that badboy into drive and stick the gas pedal to the floor , light up the tires and see it it will shift into 2and, and third . If you elect todo this make sure there is no children animals or jonnylaw around . What this does to the tranny is blows all the gunk out of the valvebody and causees it to shift properly . If that doesnt work you may have a broken accumultor spring. anyway hope this helps
