cab clearence light delete?

So the PO put factory style amber cab lights on. I would rather not have them, especially now that I have got rid of the amber turn lenses.

How big is the hole for the wires?

I have looked on flee-bay for replacement options but did not see anything that I really liked such as clear, GM or dodge style.

I though about fabricating some sort of low profile set up. possibly an acrylic plastic plate with some blind holes for LEDs. The edges of acrylic really shine with incident light, just like your factory gauge needles. make em' a similar shape to the existing lights, cut some gaskets and the total hight is about 3/8". comments?

Main hole size is 5/8, and then there is a screw hole on each side of the big hole, 1/4" maybe.

it looks like this

oOo oOo oOo oOo oOo

sounds like bondo to the rescue, then sand prime and paint.

I do like the idea of the glowing acrylic, just might be hard to get that big of a chunk of acrylic whittled down.

If you get rid of them let me know I'll take them off of your hands before they clutter up the garage. Just don't cut the factory harness all to pieces.

I know they make smoked ones, as for clear or what not, not sure. I am sure some folks will chime in here.

I bought clear replacement lenses for mine.

Perfect duplicates of the factory lenses, except for color. I use amber bulbs.

Ebay, couple of years ago. Same vendor as the smoked ones Mike mentioned.

If you're going to go to that extent....... don't use bondo ! Just weld up the hole !! put a thin coating of bondo.... and then sand and paint !! Just my opinion !!! I'd just put the clear lenses on there like others have done and it should be good !!

Looks like a body shop is in your future, unless your skilled at paint and bodywork.

body work is one of my least favorite things to do. I'd rather pull a transmission. welding 5, 0.625" holes closed doesn't sound like fun either. I bet the roof metal is paper thin too.

The clear lenses are cheaper than just the paint. maybe I will try to make one acrylic lens and go from there.

thanks for the info and insite
