Wal-Mart?

This should boggle your mind!!
And scare you as well!

HOW BIG IS WAL-MART?

1 . At Wal-Mart,
Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour
of every day.

2 .
This works out to $20,928 profit
every minute!

3.
Wal-Mart will sell more
from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th)
than Target sells all year.

4.
Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot +
Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco +
K-Mart combined.

5.
Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people
and is the largest private employer. And most can't speak English

6.
Wal-Mart is the largest company
in the history of the World.

7.
Wal-Mart now sells more food
than Kroger & Safeway combin ed,
and keep in mind they did this
in only 15 years.

8.
During this same period,
31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy
(including Winn-Dixie).

9.
Wal-Mart now sells more food
than any other store in the world.

10.
Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores
in the USA of which 1,906 are SuperCenters;
this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.

11.
This year, 7.2 billion different
purchasing experiences will occur
at a Wal-Mart store.
(Earth's population is approximately
6.5 billion.)

12.
90% of all Americans live
within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart

13
Let Wal Mart bail out Wall Street

WalMart is the largest employer in the USA and has been for a few years. The US Postal Service is second largest employer. I doubt the 'most can't speak english' part. Sounds like WallyWorld/ChinaMart bashing to me.

What's the point? I highly doubt that most can't speak english.

Is it that Wal-Mart is evil because it's so big and successful? Maybe we should put them in with Exxon Mobil and tax them to death for being so successful.

I say yay for Wal-Mart for being super successful. Yay for providing millions of jobs. Yay for providing millions if not billions of tax dollars.

Why do people hate large successful businesses based in the US?

Everyone that hates walmart have their own reasons. I for one don't like them cause I worked for them for a brief period in my life. I personally prefer doing business with a locally owned business. But that is of course becoming more and more difficult each passing year. I also prefer buying US made products when possible, but that also is becoming more difficult. I won't fault people that choose to shop at walmart, just as I would hope people won't fault me for trying to avoid them as much as possible.

By the way, I feel the same towards all big box stores, not just walmart.

I have no problems with people who don't want to buy from "big box" stores.

However I think that the "mom and pop" stores are an outdated idea these days. IMO they can't offer people the selection or prices that people want.

As far as buying US made stuff, I don't see Wal-Mart and small town stores offering different stuff. It seems that they offer the same products, but Wal-Mart is cheaper due to thier massive buying power.

That was Emailed to me and I thought I would share it.

I agree with the english speaking part.......I doubt they can't speak english.

I am not a fan of corporations who deem it in their best interest to buy everthing from China.

Do you remember the day of wal-mart when "proudly made in the usa" signs hung in the store?

I would venture to guess that they buy from whoever has the lowest price on the item they are looking to sell. Then they pass those savings to the consumer.

I've bought a ton of stuff (probably literally) from Wal-Mart that is made in America. From what I've seen, they have the good stuff like Coleman and Maglite and then the knock offs in the same area. It's up to you what you buy.

The small Mom and Pop stores are rare for sure. I'm looking for a 32" flat screen TV to hang on a wall and I looked at the ones from walmart. I asked the guy about the different models, and he appeared to know what he was talking about, especially since I don't know anything about them. I asked him if they serviced them when they have problems and he said no, they send them out if under warranty, and if out of warranty it's up to me to do that. For my money, I want to buy from someone that services what they sell. I know, an outdated concept, but I'm old fashioned.

Almost nobody services what they sell. Most things now, especially electronics, are too complex to do in house work on.

If you find anyone that actually services a flat panel on site, let me know. IMO I'd rather have the factory that made the thing fix it.

You're right, they don't. The factory probably takes your TV and they place it in the garbage and send you a new one. That's a shame when it could have possibly been fixed with a 10 cent part. I know a TV repair guy in Newport that told me that there is no replacement parts available for a lot of those flat screen TV's. That TV repair guy is the only one I know of, and he's my father-in-laws best friend. I believe I will pay him a visit and see what he can get for me.

Typically, they do just replace the part and resell it as a refurb. But the good thing is that these new electronics are so reliable that they rarely need repairs. Come to think of it, I don't know of anyone who has had problems with thier flat panel TV.

If you go on ebay, you can find a ton of replacement parts.

I worked in a Walmart Distribution Center for a few years and they get their moneys worth out of you.
If you can't lift 100# continuos for 10 or 12 hour shifts, they don't want you.
When I left it was 3800 packages in a 12 hout shift.
That was about 316 pachages an hour.
Talk to someone that sells to Walmart, they are very hard to deal with.

I have a friend of mine who is on the anit wal mart band wagon and actually sent me a email requesting money for Wal mart workers for them to have money at Christmastime. The woman they wrote about was upset because she only made 10.75 an hour and had to work. I freaked.
I thought of the girl at the gas station who makes 6.55 an hour, the housekeeper at the resort nearby who will work harder than this lil miss wal mart whiner will standing behind her register and yet she only makes 7.15 an hour.
tell that to the waitress at local diner who makes 2.55 an hour and tips and should non tippers be the fare for her 8 hour shift the she has made nothing really.
Wal Mart workers have always whined since day one. They complain about working 40 hour weeks, overtime, that they take on a lifting job and actually have to lift. okay nuff of that

Wal Mart has been the cause of many closures but we are America and i always thought it was a free enterprise and if you were bigger and better then so be it. If I can go to wal Mart and get all the groceries I need for 68.37 and same things at small JayC store are 82.52 We have the reason why I shop at Wal mart. Times change. I remember when the gas stations threw fits when the BP station opened up. A big chain was taking over the small guy.
McDonalds went after the mom pop burger place market. Its the country we live in. I tell my friend Byron when he sends me his anti wal mart email I just tell him to shop where he wants and Ill shop where I want.
